True! True!! One of the shows I love to watch in Melbourne, Better Homes and Gardens, has a Vet Segment. One lady brought in her bird who was bald in patches. Apparently, the bird missed the lady's daughter so much when she left to work overseas that it became very nervous and started to pluck its own feathers out!

My pet parakeet gets a free run of the house as I keep his cage door open when I'm awake at home. Feathers everywhere, but at least parakeet poop dries hard and can be scraped off easily.Originally posted by Rhonda:

stella, don't start to buy a pet before you've read enough about it to be able to give it the best care it deserves. Otherwise, it's really not fair for the poor pet.
I almost kept hermit crabs until I read about the care that they need to thrive and I got overwhelmed and thought, forget it! -

I heard that birds fall deeply in love with their owners and once the owner has to leave to go on vacation or something, they fall lovesick!

then when i was in camp, it flew away according to my parents. so sad, it was so friendly to me, that when i fed it bread it will come to the side and pick it off my hand. and was the only bird that allowed me to stroke it.
i was emotional for 3 days. -

they're scared at first, after showing lotsa care and staying by their side everyday soon it'll warm up to you. -

hmm.. wonder if budgies are like raptors.. you have it in front of you with food in your hand.. not looking at it, but looking beside it..
after a long time, it'll come to you and pick up the food.. do not move to touch it..
keep doing that to win its trust.. -
