Ya... fast & efficient some more.Originally posted by Rhonda:Actually, I think our civil service scores tops! The CID lady at the counter when I tried to get my police clearance was very patient in explaining to me why I needed an extra letter before the procedure can be done. She was very sweet-natured.![]()
Ya... lots of diff. restaurants around, but mainly in the city area, and as I live so far away, I seldom get a chance to go into the city.Originally posted by Rhonda:I'm quite surprised that Melbourne has more food varieties compared to Sydney cause I thought in Sydney, the restaurants are also very cosmopolitan?
Ta for asking!Originally posted by SydneyLibrarian:Ya... fast & efficient some more.In Sydney, some of the people really make me wanna spew blood!
Slow, and sometimes they get very muddle-headed & get things wrong! Take Telstra, for e.g. They disconnected my broadband service on an earlier date when I specifically told them I needed my broadband until a specific date!
Apa machiam... must be a blonde who served me
How is your PR process coming along, btw? Forgot to ask you when we met. Do you have much else to do?
Don't you know? It's a 'work/life' balance for themselves & themselves only!!Originally posted by the Bear:i dunno.. the past 2 months, i've been taking things a day at a time... looking at the calendar for stuff to do...
after i've erased the things i had to do, a whole lot of new things appeared...
the gabrament here says 'work/life' balance...
it's BS
That's why I think I'll stay put in Melbourne. I think things will start to look much better once I get my own set of wheels!Originally posted by SydneyLibrarian:Ya... lots of diff. restaurants around, but mainly in the city area, and as I live so far away, I seldom get a chance to go into the city. And Sydney is very big... makes getting around much more difficult than Melbourne....
What in the world is this Limonya??Originally posted by the Bear:hmm.. empty stomach and 2 bottles of Limonya later, i feel slightly buzzed
which is cool considering it takes about 4 pints of guinness to do that
Hey that cost's quite reasonable!Originally posted by Rhonda:Ta for asking!Monday I'm going to make a mad dash to get my Medical check-up for the PR application completed here. I think for health professionals, it costs $160++ for the full check. Apparently, we need to have more tests done compared to the normal folks, like we need HIV and Hepatitis tests done as well. I remember that I was soooo relieved to learn that I was negative for HIV because I've had needle-prick injuries before!
So, getting that done on Monday, then maybe do some last-minute shopping, then rush home to pack!

Whilst they were around, I couldn't listen to my music, couldn't watch TV, couldn't stay up too late, etc etc etc. Now, FREEDOM!!!![]()
Thanks!Originally posted by SydneyLibrarian:Hey that cost's quite reasonable! All the best... hope the day goes smoothly for you & you're able to get everything done on time
One of my library customers told me that when she came over from Singapore, it took her quite awhile to adjust... like between 5-7 yearsOriginally posted by Rhonda:That's why I think I'll stay put in Melbourne. I think things will start to look much better once I get my own set of wheels!
I think I need to be patient cause it takes time to grow to love a place. That's what my colleagues tell me. Some of them have been there for donkey years and they still tell me that they don't feel as if it's their new home.
I guess it's good that there are so many migrants in Melbourne cause there's a sense of camaraderie amongst us sometimes.![]()
Depends... if I'm on the expressway and there are cars on either side of me, then no way Jose I'll slow down cause it may cause a massive pile-up on the freeway! I'll say a quick prayer and... *gulp... pulpy possum.Originally posted by the Bear:point: if you see a possum run into the middle of the road when you are driving.. what do you do?
seriously... be honest...
do you cover your eyes and scream or do you take evasive action, or do you do a quick calculation, find it's safer for all around you to run over the possum and actually do?
because i almost got killed when someone screamed, took her hands off the wheel, and covered her eyes with them...
i had to take the wheel from the passenger seat, tell her to slow down and steer the car to the side and take over driving...

Wa lao eh... so dangerous!Originally posted by the Bear:point: if you see a possum run into the middle of the road when you are driving.. what do you do?

I think it does take time to learn to love a place... just like it takes time for friendships to forge, and time for a husband / wife to love each other unconditionally.Originally posted by SydneyLibrarian:One of my library customers told me that when she came over from Singapore, it took her quite awhile to adjust... like between 5-7 yearsBut after that, she grew acustomed to the place & learnt to love it

If I'm on a country road or empty street, I'll slow down and horn at it.If that fails to send it scooting, I'll wind down my window and yell at it!
"Hey mate! Get moving, you!!"

I don't understand why some drivers can take their hands off the wheel in a panic?
I'd rather run down an animal than endanger my life (& others, too).
I'll do that... but I'll probably be in a momentary daze when I feel the car go "bump!"Originally posted by the Bear:not about what you should do.. but what you will do...
