Just like in Tamil dramas, they add the chase around the tree, woman falls into river and part of saree goes floating down the stream... stuff like that. For added effect, for comic relief.
Hell, I sure hope nobody watches Phua Chu Kang and think that us Singaporeans are anything like the characters in there! -

oh, but you can pick up much subtler things about the psyche of a society from the dramas and movies also ....
take south korean movies for example ... you get the feeling that the south koreans are resentful of the americans ... (watch for the villians) ... but they all look up to the place ... (it's a place of refugee, to migrate, to escape, to send the wayward son to school to .... )
they'll talk about the decadence of the states, and how they are a barrier against the reunification of the han nation ....
I can go on and on from tagalog to thai movies, but I'll stop here ... -

as for Singaporean dramas ... you can easily tell that it's a repressed society too ... trying to find it's voice .... that's why there's not quite a pattern yet ... -

Whilst some directors DO use dramas and movies as a medium to subtly criticise society, I think most just want to make sure they produce something that will appeal to the audience back home.
I never think that real Koreans are anywhere close to those drama depictions! I've heard of how rude they can be, jumping queues and pushing you, but if you watch the dramas and derive your perspective from there, you'd think they are a bunch of very polite peeps, which is not the case if you're a stranger. In fact, until you know them and establish some sort of social order amongst you and them, they may not even bother being polite.
Don't ask me about TCS 8, I don't go there! -
