i'll just say this about those who lament singapore being a rat race being full of rats...
there are so many lamenting... yet, they CHOOSE to be the very rats they say they hate...
so, what is so hard about not caring about the race anymore? when is enough not enough anymore?
do you need that bigger car? do you need the bigger house? do you need that bigger... ?
all the time your soul and your humanity is getting smaller?
good trade off?
and by going to another country, will it become any different if you are so easily swayed by the rats in singapore? what will you become there? their version of the rat?
time to stop blaming society...
you want a change in the society, stand your ground and start the change from yourself, your family, your immediate sphere of influence.. you are not helping things by blaming society and the doing exactly what the rats are doing..
just like i was talking to someone recently.. he was lamenting that the school system is causing children to work like mad and not have a childhood.. when i asked him how his child is doing, he said that his child was stressed and working very late each day and all that.. his lower primary child!!
he didn't even have the guts to go tell the MOE and teachers to bugger off...
so.. what do you think?
inwardly, a lot of people would rather sacrifice their own children on the altar of the ratrace than to say something and stand up for their beliefs..
same thing.. a lot of people lament singapore being 'soulless' and all that... but they don't do a single thing to change it.. instead, becoming one of the hordes of 'souless people'
i'll make a stand even if it is insignificant.. -
it is easier to walk away than to stand and fight .........
besides, the "fighters" are usually labelled as "ungrateful" and "rebellious"

sometimes, fighting for your family and fighting for ideals and the larger society can be two different fights ...
my parents are getting on their years ... they may be asset rich but are cash poor .... if they stay on, they can get by ... but only if they don't fall sick .... or nothing extraordinary happens .... I look at the retires here .... playing golf, fishing every day, a trip to vegas every not and then, a boat in the garage ... I want the same for my parents too ....
maybe one day I'll return to fight the good fight ... for the embers of idealism still burns inside me .... but in the meantime ... I choose to be selfish for my loved ones .... -

i guess for parents, the fight is fought..
but for yourself, for your children.. the fight is still to be fought..
it's just this.. i look at our society and it is sad... personal responsibility is evaporating and there are many out there who are making 'it's not my fault' their mantra..
ignorance is used as a weapon..
there must be a time when we stop blaming others and make things better for ourselves..
when i say 'hey.. he did his best.. he's passed his exams and really try' it's not good enough for the child's parents.. ever hear of those who get 98% and freak out because they didn't get that 100%
those stories are becoming more and more common..
will those who read this dare to promise they'll never do that to their own children? because i've seen those who said they will not, end up pressuring their own children to 'succeed'
they've essentially become the very rats we talked about never becoming a decade ago...

The sad thing is, I was something like that not too long ago. It took the threat of high blood pressure and total mental burnout to give me a good shaking and to reexamine myself for all it's worth.
And yeah... I think it's working. For my recent results, though my point average dropped slightly (by 0.02 points), I was still pretty contented with them.
The way I see it now, there's nothing wrong in not being the best... the true crime is when I don't do my best. At the end of the day, I recognise that there are limits to my own abilities, and that I should just do my best and accept whatever happens next.

education system is tough, but complaining to moe won't help.
because if we slacked off our education, the elites will suddenly become not so elite anymore. -
reading all these. feeling sad.
we however have bred lots of folks....that cant make it. -
actually, no need to complain to MOE...
just.. accept and be happy with the grade, knowing the child did the best.
