  Little boy was not feeling well today, possibly from the food poisoning yesterday from the crab cakes with tar tar sauce. We think its the tar tar sauce making him and his papa to throw up yesterday.
  
  So this morning. I made little boy a ultra simple sandwich of bread with cream cheese before he was whisked off to school by his grandparents.
  
  And he started his swimming lessons today. The grandparents bring him back, and I immediately take him for a walk in the stroller to coax him to nap.
  
  He does for a little while only, less then 20 minutes nap.
  
  thankfully, I was able to start dinner going and his papa came home from work and we all starts with feeding the kids. Little boy fell asleep halfway thru his dinner. And later when he woke up, he was feverish.
  
  Lucky thing, the dinner I made was only meatballs in carrot, celery, onions soup, fried veggies & fried a radish omelette. And the kids are comfortable with simple foods.

  With children. Cooking is never easy.
  
  Cannot be too hard, cannot be too thick a item....cannot be too spicy and I dont want to use salt or too much sugar.
  
  Takes me a while to get the consistency of the rice right for the kids too.
  
  And then I discovered the steamer attachment for the kids rice and it works great now. Kids has softer rice for dinner nowadays, while the adults takes the more chewy brown rice.
  
  At least 3 dishes, including a soup most times. With rice.
  
  I am turning into a housewife

  I'm reading an old book I came across stuffed at the back of a cupboard.... The Giant Book of True Crime. It mainly talks about infamous murderers such as Mark Chapman (the guy who killed John Lennon) and the Zodiac Killer.
  
  The thing is, I can't help but detect a morbid sense of glee while the author was writing the book. For instance, in a passage on a killer named William Palmer out to kill his best friend by adding poison to his soup :
  
  

  
  ... It must have been a tasty soup, because a Talbot Hotel chambermaid was tempted to sample a spoonful, after which she was taken very sick and spent the rest of the day in bed.

  You are right... Are rice easily accessible around your area?

  There is asian supermarkets, and restaurants are plenty. They now even have asian foods at food courts.
  
  And lots of asians in USA now. Except for the Wisconsin places where they are usually farm areas.
  
  The only thing you might miss is the convenience of eating asian hawker fare and its original taste.
  
  Otherwise, you can cook it yourself easier.

  i always figure if you are in a country, go do what the locals do...
  
  especially if you are there for studies.. it can be an education in itself not to be confused with getting the 'education' of paper...
  
  when i was in melbourne for 3 years, there were people there who have never ventured out of the little suburb they were in, never ate anything other than the really lousy 'asian food' takeout place...
  
  when their lease on their house ended, they moved to the hostel where they met a few others.. for the first time in their 2 years there, they went out with a local-born (my roommates) and ate something other than McCrap's, Hungry Jacks' (burger king) or that stupid chinese takeout...
  
  we introduced them to Souvlaki, pasta, pizza, gelato, the works... australian rules football, rock concerts, having brews at the pub, sightseeing....
  
  i bet they were kicking themselves for missing out of a lot of things for 2 years
  
  so, try not to be too caught up with looking for 'rice, asian food' and whatever.. you'll do well doing what the locals do, eating what they eat, widening your horizons
