I went through it.

the tea ceremony thingy, is what i will viewed as the most important part of the chinese wedding actually.
Its so much cheaper, more respectful and you can include in all the families members and skip that dinner if you want to get away with it. -
parental approval is all that matters. who cares abt the relatives.... it's you who would live happily every after
btw, TX has not meet my dad side relatives because they r so gossipy and love to play 'games'. if only i can 'no' to invite them. i even told my mom i dun them on red table but my mum being always soooooo nice, gave in when my dad say to follow tradition.Originally posted by elindra:Couldn't leh

My relatives were all against Mr Pinky Bear coz he is not Chinese
But my parents know that when I have made up my mind god bless the person who tries to force me into anything (Also they like him so I guess it helps) -

The chinese tea ceremony is actually the wedding.
The dinner afters are the bonus celebrations. -

Its much more of a tradition for a grooms side to do tea ceremony for the whole entire clan.
Brides side, its much more restrained to only the immediate families. -

Then again, my family have never been one that is traditional. (My dad also thinks just ROM can liao )
To me it is just a ceremony and something done because "it has always been done in the past"
Plus, it is not something recognized in the eyes of law
Therefore to me the ROM is more important than the Tea ceremony
I don't consider myself not married because I didn't go through the tea ceremony (which is really a flawed thinking that alot of singaporeans have) -
to the parents who think they should have final say on the proceedings:
you getting married or the couple getting married? -
