In other news, I've just glanced through a thread on the spotting of topics of GCE O Level History.
Spotting of topics and questions is nothing new... I've seen students doing it since I was taking my O Levels. I just find it sad that they're doing that... it seems that the scoring of marks takes precedence over the pursuit of knowledge these days.
Heck, just a few months ago a friend of mine chided me for not wanting to spot topics. He said that I was 'studying hard, but not studying smart'.
To which I retorted: 'You might end up scoring more, but I'll end up knowing more'.
And the irony of it? He spotted the wrong topics and ended up faring worse than I did.

hey... it is like a microcosm of singapore isn't it?
they want to be no.1 in some things so they increase and pump their resources into the parts where they will be judged in...
but they are too myopic to see that if you do the right thing, those parts which you will be judged in, will be brought up correctly anyway -
And you know what I find really sad?
I actually get chided for not wanting to spot topics.
And the fact that one of my ex-JC classmates expressed shock that I was still continuing to read the news even after my A Levels were over.... apparently he thinks that one should read the news only for the sake of doing well in GP.
Pretty sad, huh?

Some of my friends have this perception that having more general knowledge would 'crowd out' the more 'important' academic information from the brain.
Simi crowding-out effect... I certainly didn't lose out on my studies by wanting to know a little more about what goes on around me, no?
Hell, they mock me for going through Wikipedia in my spare time... they think I'm nuts.
Ah.... bollocks to them. I just enjoy reading up on things like ancient civilisations, historical wars, and infamous villains. Never mind if it's not related to my studies... lots of fascinating stuff that you can find in Wikipedia.

I was out in the jungle for much of the week... I didn't get to read the news at all while I was in camp. -
here => Chris Benoit found dead
seems like he killed his wife and son, then killed himself...
but somewhere, someone found that an entry in wiki about his wife's death was 14 hours before the cops found the bodies.. -
Ah.... I remember now. He's the wrestler suspected of killing his wife and kid before committing suicide. Some of my friends were talking about it... but I didn't pay much attention to them.
That Wikipedia thingie is indeed pretty eerie... it's a bit of a stretch to write it off as a mere coincidence. -

the story of his wife is also something else.. it was a story where he was 'having an affair' with the wife of another wrestler, Kevin "The Dungeonmaster" Sullivan... ended up the wife left Sullivan for Benoit because of that story.. -
