i don't understand. if people wana gamble, and you're building a damn casino, then let them.

The hardcore gamblers will gamble no matter what
Might as well earn their money
I mean they actually make their effort to go Genting, go on cruises, go to illegal gambling dens to get their 'fix'
But the gov have to show that they have some form of social responsibility as well
I guess the real issue is will non-gamblers turn into hardcore gamblers with the casino (This one hard to answer) -

spending $2 a week on toto and 4D quick pick is one thing, but if singaporeans flock to the casino .... singapore is sunk .....
this is the one thing I don't mind them being elitist about ..... let the people enjoy everything about the IR freely .... except the casino ..... -

I for one would visit the IR but not interested in the casino
Seen the evils of it in Oz where you get glaze-eyed zombies pulling the one-armed bandit etc -
i think that problem can be solved.
just like for certain credit card, u gotta show em ur income statement.
u can limit them this way, and also restrict the amt of money which they can borrow.
but then again, ppl will resort to gambling becuz of the stressful nature of life in sg. this is the biggest worry. -

mommy just told me the other day about this uncle of mine who was very much respected during my childhood .... high powered executive, living in katong when it was the district 10 of the day ...
recently he discovered gambling and lost everything in his life ... job, house, car, wife, kids, and got himself more than a quarter of a million into debt to loan sharks (why the fark are these parasites not stamped out yet anyways ? )
going on a cruise ship, going up to genting, places some sort of obstacle to the hard core ones, having two in singapore is another story .... -

but lots of people won't care ... go up to genting and you'll see lots of singaporeans gambling away ..... 50 ringgit a hand minimium ? no problem ! ....
first time I went to the casino at genting I was so afraid of loosing my hard earned money I chipped only 20 ringgit and put down a 5 ringgit chip at a table ... the croupier and everyone else at the table turned at looked at me like I was some retard ....
