i was watching this NatGeo documentary about the pyramids and they said that there was a revolt because the workers didn't have enough eye cosmetics or something...

surprised that you guys brought up the kohl issues.
I read it last month in one of those magazines....Kohl was used to help reduce the glare from the sun on the sand and so on. Much like the ruby players draw black stripes on their faces.
The article also mentioned the use of kohl and its production methods by the age old ways.
They interviewed one such home business maker.
The whole process is very simple. They soak gum in olive oil for 6 months. Then burn them in a silver bowl and another silver bowl over it to collect the soot.
Then they scrape off the soot of the upper bowl and put it into containers.
Kohl to them, is almost like borrowing salt from the neighbours if one family runs out.
Its kinda different to apply though. Not like our eyeliners. it somehow was dip by a long ruler and applied in a straight line under the eyes.
And the writer commented that she applied kohl and it lasted for a entire 12 hour flight after.
But wearer needs a lot of practice to be able to put it on neatly.
On another note.....another beauty magazine suggest using beige colour eyeliner instead of black, cos black shrink the eye, and beige open up the eyes. -
