  I actually brought the tick back from Darwin. I caught an overnight flight home from Darwin so when I got home, I just jumped straight to bed. It was only when I woke up to go and have a shower, I realised I got some kind of bug stuck on my leg. Thought it was just a "squashed" spider and I pulled it out.
  
  Took me a while to realise it wasn't a spider but a tick. Anyway, I killed it but the bite until now hasn't healed, infact getting worse. And now the rash......
  
  Anyway, should be ok when I go and see the doctor this week.

  there is a way to remove ticks... requires tweezers and not smashing the tick...
  
  smashing it only leaves the mouthparts in the body..
  
  you're supposed to use the tweezers to go under the body of the tick and then lift it straight out...
  
  then you get to smash it

  Why didn't the dr believe it? You get it everywhere. When I went back to my hometown many years ago, took my niece to the beach. The next thing I know = my whole legs covered with sandfly bites. It was so bad and itchy that it drove me to tears. Unfortunately it happened again when hubby and I went to Cairns for our honeymoon when the tour guide forgot to warn us about sandflies in that area and I ended up in the same situation again!!!
  
  I think I have developed sandfly phobia ever since.....

  No no... I didn't smash it. I am afraid of worms and bugs so I just pulled it out with tissue paper as soon as I discovered it.
  
  As I thought it was a spider (squashed one), I just chucked that in the bin. Only after talking to my hubby on the phone (I called him at work to whinge), he asked me what spider it was and I took it out of the bin and realised that it wasn't. And it was still ALIVE!!!! Poor hubby, I literally screamed down the phone.
  
  Anyway, despite my effort to try to kill it (smash it hard with a magazine), it was still not dead so I put it in a jar. Think because of the lack of food and air, it died eventually.

  i had a bite from something which refused to heal for months.. until it eventually healed.. it looked gross.. suddenly thinking.. if it was now, i'd probably ask the docs to use either maggots to clean it out or go get the doctor fish to clean it out

  Hey what bite can it be? In Singapore, what kind of bugs can give you such a nasty bite? I am glad it has healed now.

  that was more than half a lifetime ago.. maybe it was sandflies, maybe a spider bite? i dunno.. but it was this bump which kept giving out gross pus

  you know, you live in aussie place with most of the most dangerous/venomous creature on earth and you thought it was jsut a spider and didn't even kill it allowing it to roam around your place?

  amazing that doctor don't believe there is sandfly bites in Singapore... probably does nothing but stay in his aircon office all the time!
  
  sandfly bites are not that bad for regular people but if you are allergic to it
  its really very very bad
  my bites turn up a few days after going to the beach, may stay for a couple of weeks but won't leave scars
  but a friend of mine.. wow.. his turn up almost at once (he is our sandfly tester) and it spreads all over his arms or legs in wicked looking red bulbous stuff.
  
  bear: think your lumpy pus-filled thingy is probably a spider bite. I had one or two of those. bah.
