80% of parents are absolutely against the idea of letting tertiary students have credit cards with no minimum salary.
Heck, 62.5% of students are against it as well, citing that they already have debit/supplementary cards or want to control their spending.
I'm completely against the idea myself... if anything, the move would only exacerbate irresponsible spending among our youth. The comments by that JC kid that he wants to use it to buy a $399 Hugo Boss shirt only underlines my views.
Even with a $500 credit limit, dollars to donuts say that at least some of these kids would default on their payments.... and they would come whining and begging for their parents to bail them out. -

From a purely pragmatist viewpoint, it's actually a pretty smart move by the banks. And surely they know that in many cases the kids' parents would bail them out if they were at risk of defaulting their payments.
I say that if you want to teach them financial responsibility, then debit cards are good enough. Let them use their own savings instead of credit to buy things.
For goodness' sake.... I'm already 24, am one year away from graduation, and my debit card is good enough in the rare occasions when I need to make online purchases. I don't see why a some punk JC kid would want to have a credit card of his own. -

This guy suffered from depression and he suddenly got into this spending spree. Problem is, credit card companies just kept offering him credit card. You would have thought that the credit card companies would do a credit check before issuing him the card. -

maybe lah ... it's easy to forget that in singapore young men have to undergo a period of serfdom before university ..
by 23 a lot of guys are done uni and out working in other countries ... -
KNN, my old dvd rom drive is fucked. Can only read/write CDs but all DVDs cannot read/write liao. Arrrgghh!!!!!!!!!
Can't even install the elder scrolls because of it.

23 years of age and $60K in debt? Wow, this chap has some pretty serious money management problems.
Hopefully, the hardships that he will surely go through to service the debt will cure him of his spendthrift ways. Some of life's lessons are best learned the hard way.

btw, I've been having this problem since 2 weeks ago but ignored it until now I have to install game(forgot games are DVDs now)
even my other dvd movies and dvdrs also cannot read liao -
interestingly I notice the region setting for the dvd drive is set at 1 and nothing I can do to change it to region 3 (error message when I try that)
yet I've used it for 3 years with no problem.
some dvd I inserted into the drive must have fucked it up
uninstalling and reinstalling the driver did not help
are the current dvd drives multi-region?
