Would it have killed the fella to simply call an exterminator? It costs money, to be sure, but at least it's a lot safer that way.
After all, even if all that gasoline hadn't exploded, the fire could easily have gone out of control and caused a lot of damage. As it is, an old and large dried-out Christmas tree is a huge pile of fuel for the flames to burn. -
