While I certainly don't want a butt-ugly machine, ultimately I place a very high premium on reliability. The way I define reliability is this: Under normal operating conditions, it MUST work when I WANT it to work.
That's one reason why I junked my #$&*#$ Creative MP3 player just a few months after I bought it. It broke down so many times that it was becoming a liability just holding on to it. In the end, I got a one-to-one exchange from Creative, and sold it off at a 33% loss.
I bought an iPod nano instead... it's more expensive with fewer features, but it's far more reliable and dependable. -
I dun have lappy, but the same principle applies to other gadgets, e.g. HP, LCD monitor (must be black!).
