You should change sex with pinky.Originally posted by Keii:I know, It's weird, cause I like to bake, cook, sew and all the other girly-girly crap.
I am only good at jamming the sewing machine that I just get pissed and refused to do anything with itOriginally posted by choco B:Yes, similar, that is also why I like Art. Despite having to be graded for it, I find it is an escape from the academic subjects and is quite relaxing.
I didn't find the practical stuff like sewing and cooking difficult because it was basically following instructions - as long as you followed them carefully the end result may not be a masterpiece but will be at least average-looking /tasting
I'm handy with the sewing machine - it only goes forward and backwardsBut that's partly because I loathe the alternative - hand-stitching - too slow and tedious!

Hmmm actually based on our discussion abt the following of instructions
D&T also requires a lot of precise designs and following of instructions

possiblypossibly nodnodOriginally posted by choco B:Maybe because it is a LONGER process , you know
You can mull over a design for a week, refer to other books, get INSPIRED, make plans today change plans next lesson, etc.
Whereas the cake has to rise in the next 3 minutes else you'll never finish it by end of class
We had to paint stuff lots of still life which I enjoyedOriginally posted by ShrodingersCat:same here i liked art tooo
but most of my art teachers were really lousy
u can paint the colour wheel only that many times
until u are sick and tired of it

actually i think in Singapore its really weirdOriginally posted by choco B:Yes I did not think my art teacher was that great too.
But I think it is difficult to teach art to EVERYONE ... especially when grades are involved... it's too subjective a subject yet you have to put a grade on it.
you should learn some manners.Originally posted by Keii:Ah Lau is Ah Lau.
I AM KEII.

well actually i think that in both cooking, and sewing also got scope for creativity its just that, the syllabus then focused a lot on the techniques.Originally posted by choco B:In that sense possibly (I dunno I never took D&T) , D&T may have more leeway for creativity.
Because cooking and sewing you have to follow STRICT instructions , no veering from it at all. All bake the same cake, all sew the same dress.
Whereas I think other than learning some standard tech skills, D&T offers more room for your own personal design and expression.
