Actually the theory is just guidelinesOriginally posted by stellazio:you wana know something?
marketing modules is crap.
its just a load of theory crap which doesn't even use an individuals creativity.
Well, my peers who have taken the module said that it's pretty interesting, though it can be pretty heavy in terms of workload.Originally posted by Wanda:It's good to take a business module...since you're from the engrg....kind of keep in touch with the other side.
And I dun understand why stella says it's crap and that it needs no creativity....If that's the case, then all companies will be doing well, i suppose.
marketing projects, you're supposed to choose a product of a company and comment on its marketing strategies and the 4Ps based on what the textbook teaches you.Originally posted by Wanda:Many subjects are like that what...They either help to develop your mind or provide you with a basic foundation. How and what you do with that knowledge - that is where your individual initiative and creativity, entreprenuership, etc. comes in.
a lot of subjects that u study don't equate to what you will do in real life wat. like what we studied in secondary school.. We don't need to learn algebra.. etc..Originally posted by stellazio:because what u study doesn't equate to what u will do in real life.
Perhaps it's bec of your teachers...coz they want to have easy marking job?Originally posted by stellazio:marketing projects, you're supposed to choose a product of a company and comment on its marketing strategies and the 4Ps based on what the textbook teaches you.
they should allow more flexibility in the system, like tying up with some small companies, get the students to market the products for em, and ultimately whether the companies wana use their marketing project is up to them.
the current system doesn't explore's the individual's student creativity.
ahh thats another point.Originally posted by Wanda:Perhaps it's bec of your teachers...coz they want to have easy marking job?![]()
Well, you gotta admit that that kind of teaching does help prepare one for the real world.Originally posted by the Bear:"first you gotta pay off the mob, so that you can operate there.. then you grease the palms of cops on the take..."
You can do that when you go to the uni.Originally posted by stellazio:ahh thats another point.
my lecturer was an adjunct one, @#$%^&..
but generally the projects are like that, i should have done the feedback and suggested to em.
or make it a linked module, where in da 1st one, u learn the basics and foundations + the study of a company's marketing method.
2nd part, u do the marketing for a product with ur group and present it to the class, lecturers and also 1 of the company's person.

i don't even have to know the theory of flight!
people should just learn what they are supposed to learn, learning anything else should be a personal pursuit because by then its done out of interest. and if you're interested, you learn more.

Originally posted by the Bear:i remember one of my subjects.. the lecturer said about the text:
see page XX, that's me.. but what the wrote in there is rubbish.. (it was him, describing how he turned a steel mill from being overrun by red ink into one of decent profitability)
he said that the writers left out the really important parts in order to fit their own 'theories'
he then told us that the latter half of the book was also 'rubbish'
we believed him.. he wasn't an academic.. he was a part-time lecturer and a full-time CEO of a few companies
