I was looking around the shops yesterday. It looks like many of the R1 anime DVDs in shops here are brought in by Odex as well, so if you want to do an effective boycott, buy your R1 DVDs online!!
And there's actually plenty of parallel import stuff from places like hong kong. Even poh kim presses some anime titles, like Bleach for example.

Oops! Did the 1000 Starhub subscribers cave in to Odex's extortion demands?Originally posted by av98m:not as much as 1000 starhub suscribers are going to be paying this week

Actually it is quite safe if they have already shown the anime in SingaporeOriginally posted by Meia Gisborn:Oops! Did the 1000 Starhub subscribers cave in to Odex's extortion demands?
Interesting. I didn't know Odex was also an importer of R1 anime titles into Singapore.
When's your order from Amazon scheduled to arrive? Are you worried that the DVDs might get impounded by the local authorities for a censorship screening?
I think they will be receiving letters starting from this weekOriginally posted by Meia Gisborn:Oops! Did the 1000 Starhub subscribers cave in to Odex's extortion demands?

in our kangaroo courts? I dunno.Originally posted by the Bear:i still think if all 1,000 ante out $500 per person, they have half a million to shoot Xedo out of the water

I'd think that most of the arguments put forth so far have already been used by Starhub and Pacific Internet during the closed hearings?
Ah, I see.Originally posted by elindra:Actually it is quite safe if they have already shown the anime in Singapore
eg. Witch Hunter Robin
I'm going to buy that from Amazon
I'd think that the ISPs will claim administrative costs.Originally posted by elindra:Oh btw I think it's a bit of a BS that they have to pay Singtel for the info
Especially if they get a court order

That's for future earnings lost because after this legal action, its only a matter of time before the company collapses.Originally posted by fudgester:In the first place, how the heck did they come up with a figure of $3000-$5000 per downloader?
I'm no legal expert, but I very much doubt that they spent $3000-$5000 on legal and admin costs for every single downloader they catch. After all, if it involves 1000 downloaders, it then implies that ODEX spent $3 million - $5 million in all... which is something that I must take with a huge tablespoon of salt.
Thank you for the new linksOriginally posted by Meia Gisborn:Ah, I see.
However, the broadcast version of an anime title might contain a number of edits to appease the censors, while the DVD release usually contains the full and uncut version which might include 'objectionable' content. Also, I wouldn't rely on the censors knowing that a particular series has aired in Singapore.
As I've mentioned in a previous posting, Amazon's prices on R1 DVDs aren't very competitive. Have you taken a look at other online DVD retailers? I highly recommend Deep Discount DVD and DVD Planet; both have really good prices and ship internationally.
dude. odex anime sales can't be any worse then it is now.Originally posted by av98m:That's for future earnings lost because after this legal action, its only a matter of time before the company collapses.![]()
yeah and that xephone xenon guy claims that odex does not profit from any of this. so naive.Originally posted by fudgester:In the first place, how the heck did they come up with a figure of $3000-$5000 per downloader?
