I think our so called "asian values" play a part too .....
our hierarchical society has lead us to push aside respect for other individuals ...
I was watching some local dramas on youtube recently ... and I was shock at the level of violence and shouting and quarrels shown .... do they mirror our society now ? .... I think it does ...

I've been suppressing my coughs as much as I can, knowing that I can't calm my throat down with water. -
I remember correctly, that being sick during fasting month, you are required to stop the fasting and solve your sickness first.

If I'm ill, I have the choice of breaking my fast if fasting can either cause an illness, aggravate a current illness, or delay its recovery. I can choose to not break my fast - unless if it's a life-or-death situation where I must break my fast.
As it is I've already broken my fast last Friday and Saturday when my illness took a turn for the worse and I came down with a fever. I don't want to have to break too many days - as it is I'm going to have to fast two days over the December holidays to make up for the days that I missed. -
