I get what Fatum is saying and I actually attened Church for nearly 3 years before I finally had to call it quits. I enjoyed hanging out with my friends from there, even on weekdays or after service but my inability to fully accept that basic concept of christianity finally drove me away. I could have just continued going there and go through the motions during services but that would have been both hypocritical and disrespectful. -
It just means you are a thinking person who is able to analyse things for yourself, instead of showing blind faith. I was from a Methodist school too
I did go to church for a period of time but I just couldn't accept the basic concept and I basically stopped going to church
Also I they couldn't answer my questions about dinosaurs in the bible they just pointed to a paragraph somewhere which talks about a big animal but it could be an elephant for all I know.
That and some other questions in regards to what is written in the bible -

it's an easy way out to try to wrap every concept around logic .... to try to apply logic to everything ....
it is also futile ... for our logic and intellect is limited by what we perceive reality to be, constrained not just by physics, but by what we understand as "science" ....
remember then that once upon a time, scientists of a certain age all agreed that the earth was flat .... or that the sun was the center of the universe, no ? ...
what I'm trying to high-light is the ultimate futility of logic when it comes to faith ...
I spent my whole life denying religion, I took pride in being an atheist .... remember me poking fun at the happy clapper in this forum ? ..... But I did have a personal epiphanic moment ... it's hard to explain ... but everything sort of fell into place for me ....
in anycase .... even if religion is but just an emotional succor, a guiding light for our daily existence, then it's served it's purpose also, neh ? .... it's a cruel world we live in .... and if we can derive a certain comfort in faith .... why not ? .... it cushions our daily existence, no ? ... -

Just an observation.... but it's interesting to see how a discussion on pay disputes could evolve into a serious discussion on religion.
