ah .... I understand ... I find it ironic also ...Originally posted by Ferret:Forgive me for saying this.
But I find that usually people "find" religion when they are in time of needs.
And I find this very shallow.
I do understand that changes (poverty, illness, etc) can and do change a people's perspective. But its just that, I thought...finding God would be more of a ....how do i say it ?
....
Like say everything's well and peachy...and you sit back and and relax and find Him, you know ?
Not those fervent last min prayers when say, you are dying and wanna get well, or suddenly have visions of a better after life.
Erm... different from what i am talking abt....Originally posted by StarPuppy:x2

But yeah, usually these are little evils.
In the larger scheme of things, they play a very small part only...
These could be easily ignored.
Hanor, but i duno why till now i can't stop swearing when playing games.Originally posted by elindra:Well Fatum, it's a healthier alternative to cigs, beer and 1 nighters
Anyway I think having a religion does help to make one into a better person
So as long as you are not extreme about it and force your beliefs down ppl's throat
It's really a good thing

thats right. many people treat god as an atm machine.Originally posted by StarPuppy:yeah..i know wat u mean
wat i am saying on the context is tat
people usually turn their back away from god and only need God when they need help
I don't ... I'm not a happy clapper .....Originally posted by elindra:Well Fatum, it's a healthier alternative to cigs, beer and 1 nighters

Yeah....but thats so...Originally posted by stellazio:Normally, when you're enjoying life, you have everything except for God. You don't realize his presence because you thought you don't need it and your life is perfect even though he's always been there behind you. This is my personal take on why quite a number of people find God when they're going through a bad situation when no one else is there to help them.
and some turn to busses instead of gods?Originally posted by elindra:Btw I HAD to read about the HK bus spotter's thread after hearing about it yesterday

I know exactly what you're trying to sayOriginally posted by Ferret:Yeah....but thats so...
I do understand and sympathise when people are going through a bad patch...and that they feel that nobody is around to help them...and they feel so lonely...and such.
Then when they suddenly "find" God, they are once again full of life.
But it just feels so...to me. (sorry i keep replacing it with emoticons. Cant really describe how i feel)
I mean, whatever works, right ?
It makes those people happy and its not like its a drug or anything.
But to me, thats not like a "real" erm... what do devouts call it ? An experience with God ?
Yeah thats right...just a tool.Originally posted by Fatum:ah .... I understand ... I find it ironic also ...
but does it matter when you "find" religion ? ... if religion is a tool to help you get through a personal crisis ? ....
once upon a time, I tried to become a regular volunteer at the red cross home for the disabled at hill view ... immates with twisted, mangled, paralyzed bodies, but some with normal, sharp minds ..... I stopped after a while, cos it's too mentally draining for me, every visit took a piece of my soul, so I stopped.
there were a bunch of evangelist preaching there then ... I remember being contemptuous of them ... for exploiting those people .... I remember an immate there telling me that souls really go to heaven after death, that it's been scientifically proven (okay, roll your eyes there) ...
later ... I realized that it's not such a bad thing after all ... cos their faith, regardless of whether you hold the same faith or not ... helps them get through their painful daily existence ... imagine having a normal, sharp mind, but a twisted, mangled, paralyzed body ... their faith and hope gives them the strength and courage to get on with their lives ....
we all seek succor in different ways .... and I'm not ashamed that I found succor in this rather than cigarettes and beer and one night stands as I have done in the past ....
