I do understand that changes (poverty, illness, etc) can and do change a people's perspective. But its just that, I thought...finding God would be more of a ....how do i say it ?

Like say everything's well and peachy...and you sit back and and relax and find Him, you know ?
Not those fervent last min prayers when say, you are dying and wanna get well, or suddenly have visions of a better after life.
but does it matter when you "find" religion ? ... if religion is a tool to help you get through a personal crisis ? ....
once upon a time, I tried to become a regular volunteer at the red cross home for the disabled at hill view ... immates with twisted, mangled, paralyzed bodies, but some with normal, sharp minds ..... I stopped after a while, cos it's too mentally draining for me, every visit took a piece of my soul, so I stopped.
there were a bunch of evangelist preaching there then ... I remember being contemptuous of them ... for exploiting those people .... I remember an immate there telling me that souls really go to heaven after death, that it's been scientifically proven (okay, roll your eyes there) ...
later ... I realized that it's not such a bad thing after all ... cos their faith, regardless of whether you hold the same faith or not ... helps them get through their painful daily existence ... imagine having a normal, sharp mind, but a twisted, mangled, paralyzed body ... their faith and hope gives them the strength and courage to get on with their lives ....
we all seek succor in different ways .... and I'm not ashamed that I found succor in this rather than cigarettes and beer and one night stands as I have done in the past .... -

Anyway I think having a religion does help to make one into a better person
So as long as you are not extreme about it and force your beliefs down ppl's throat
It's really a good thing

catholicism is not evangelical at all I think .....
I just have to reconcile the rest of my family to my decisions ....
my parents are pretty open about things .... for which I am thankful ... but the grand parents may be a bit of an obstacle .... -

in anycase ... it's something sublime and personal ... I do not think it matters really how one discovers faith ... but maybe you should try it too ... now that you're in a "nice and peachy" phase of your life ...

I havent found Him. And dont know if I ever will. Sometimes in life, I despair about my daily existence. But to use God as a life's "supplement", I just cant do it. I just cant.
Yes, people seek their comforts in their own ways. I understand that. That was the point I was making in my earlier post.
Sometimes, people try to convert me, but when I look at them...I just...cant see myself like that.
I believe I will recognize faith one day. But that day hasnt come. But I guess I can wait. Even if it takes more than a lifetime to do it. -
