And as it turns out.... it may be a blessing in disguise in a way. Because now I can design my apparatus to be smaller in size, which makes it easier to handle.
The problem was that I had underestimated the density of the 80% aqueous glycerine that I was planning to use, which caused the flow to be much more turbulent than I originally thought (which I don't want).
So the solution would be to make the liquid more viscous.... which can be done in several ways. It adds complexity to the experiment, but nothing which I can't handle (I hope).
Oh well... I'm the first person ever to do this project. My own prof told me that he would be surprised if I didn't encounter problems along the way. -

1. There is no pressure to reproduce the results of previous experiments
2. I have the flexibility to design it the way I see fit
3. Being a completely original piece of work, I wouldn't be intruding onto the turf of others (and get accused of unoriginality, plagiarism, etc)
4. If all turns out fine, it can really get my work noticed.
5. If the project's screwed, it's still understandable.
So yeah.... feeling much better now.
