I'm resigning to the fact that perhaps love doesn't happen to everyone .... so it's okie ....
and yes, I know all about the grass .... but hey, in singapore I have a lot more avenues to find fulfillment, really ....
you know ... life in asia, anywhere in asia, is a lot more "raw" .... I feel so much more alive in singapore ....
life here is so insulated, so "good" ... that it feels artificial ... unreal .... mundane .... maybe that's why grass is so popular here, people needed that kind of excitement ...
maybe, after years of daily grind, I'd come to appreciate life here, where the grind still goes on, but at a much slower pace ....
but I guess I'm still young enough to want to make something out of my life .... -

I'll never forget the time he told me about one of his students who couldn't calculate 1/4 + 1/4 ... and that when he has to teach them laplace transforms ....

I don't know, so far no job really interests me. I guess i would be far happier if I was rich enough to not work. then i can go and do some interesting stuff and learn. just read the email about the pay thing..
what pissed the rest of the guys off was that the 'review' of the pay has not been completed yet... this is after more than half the bloody year..
the last time we got abused by members of the public because of it.. when the ministers gave themselves a huge mother of a pay increase, and then lumped themselves in with the rest of the civil serpents...
some civil serpents got little increases of about 1% to 5%.. a lot of the rest of the civil serpents like my organisation got ZERO...
but the press made it sound as if everyone got a big fat increase.. but it was all averaged out with the ministers (who are NOT civil serpents.. they're serpents but are not civil at all) included which drove up the average..
so before we knew of this, our frontline officers became targets of verbal abuse...
there was a lot of anger and we told it like it was.. so to placade us, they promised a 'review'
well, the review has gone on and on and it's still not completed..
so to keep us quiet, they are giving us a pittance.. hoping we'll shut up..
man.. we don't ask for much.. and that's what we got... -

There are certainly outstanding students from ITE before, most of which late bloomers -
the job where i won't feel like i'm working at all each day would be to play football!

Its so easy to get kicked out of mainstream. A lot of the students some of my friends teach in other special ed schools are really 'borderline' cases. They get 'recommended' to special schools becos teachers can't handle them in the mainstream pressure. But when teenagers don't like you, they will deliberately make things difficult for you. AND every part of it purposefully done. -

our society stratifies everyone so early on, and our young gets saddled with different labels with connotations about different levels of future achievements so early on in life ...
some of his students told of teachers who told them to just shut up and stay at the back of the class, who were excused from homework, who branded their students as hopeless cases, who told them they would never amount to anything in life, who advised them not to take O' levels cos they were going to fail anyways .... when the authority figure treats you as such, is it any surprise that these students would come to disrespect authority ? ... -

Sometimes I find that Singapore is a place of irony....
we have low unemployment rate and yet pple are not happy in their jobs...
we have the latest communication tools and yet pple hardly talk to each other, much less communicate (esp between couples... so many marriages fail due to lack of communication)
we have a strong economy that minimised problems of poverty and everyone have the luxury of earning a little bit more... yet it's always not enough... esp if we want to pursue our dreams / passion....
we have passion to do things that we really want to do, but challenges in reality like $$ are reining us in....
what kind of an unhappy state we are all in.... hahahaha -
fark la, just go try to be a minister la hisk.

But if the teenagers want to be funny and they have the minds to think. then i feel ok punishing them.
