But coz he was going to sleep he said we discuss today -
fatum, life hits you and knocks you down.. you crawl around for a while, then get up, dust yourself off and start walking again...
goodness knows i've been hammered so many times... and am bruised (sometimes physically too) and still get up, dust myself off and hobble along...
we'll be fine

I believe that we are never the same person through life. When you are Fatum in your 20's, the ONE is a different girl for you, compared to 30-something Fatum's selection of the ONE. And there is no blame there because change is inevitable.
However if you have commited to someone in your 20's, then Love is an effort to grow and continue loving that woman in your 30's and beyond.

We have so many facets to our personality and character.... The ONE you meet in your 20s fit in with some aspects and not others.... and the ONE you meet in your 30s fit differently....
Basically we are not linear or 2-dimensional shapes that only one option fits??

No, because love is not only an impulse it is also a decision . It is a conscious decision to not pursue an attraction, a self-discipline not to put oneself in potentially compromising situations, a commitment to stay faithful, an effort to nurture the love in a relationship. Sounds like work leh.
That aside, I don't see why a short-lived relationship, if genuine and true while it lasted, should be of any less value than one that lasts for years on end.
