  i think i know why
  my main table is 800px wide.
  the table inside with overflow on is 600. that's the one that refuses to centre itself.
  
  so maybe i should make one more table in the big one, put that in the centre then put the overflowing one inside.
  
  or maybe i should just scale down my 800px wide table
