[b]Mark of a gracious society does not arise from an Act of Parliament
I REFER to the letter from Mr Nelson Quah about the 'Anti-social Behaviour Act'.
He wants to enact an 'all embracing Parliamentary Act' to 'eradicate anti-social behaviour and produce a gracious society'. Like many Sporeans, his solution to all problems is 'fine, ban, jail'.
And yet Singaporeans ask themselves why everyone in the rest of the world thinks they are weird.
The mark of a gracious society does not arise from an Act of Parliament, or through campaigns. It comes from years of living in a society with a gracious government with enlightened people.
Mr Quah says that Singaporeans behave in a Third World manner and these behaviours tarnish our 'First World image'. With his letter, he has further buttressed the notion that Singapore is - and will probably be for some time to come - a Third World nation in every sense of the word.

He has a point you know though I wouldn't say it's coming from the right country especially since most of the boorish behavior comes from China
