Just read the morning rags.
Some dumbass principal has barred her N Level students from going on to the O Levels.... apparently she wants full O Level passes, and she thinks that her N Level students are unlikely to be able to do that.
Goes to show how sad our education system has become.... we emphasize so much on grades and marks that the welfare of students and the duty to teach them if they're willing to learn both go down the drain.![]()

When asked to comment, she kept talking about statistics such as 'N Level students scoring Grade 4 are unlikely to pass the O Level subject.....'Originally posted by the Bear:well, whatever it is, how can the principal dictate what the student wants to do?

What bull. I got C for PSLE Maths. I can still remember how one of my teachers actually showed us some classified MOE documents about our expected E Maths and A Maths grades based on our PSLE scores. Where the rest of my classmates were expected to get A1/A2, I was expected to get B4 and C5.
She fired me up by saying, 'Fudge, the MOE is insulting you! Go and teach them a lesson!!!'
I went on to get A1 in E Maths and A2 in A Maths.
Up yours, MOE.
another honest mistake. let's moved on.Originally posted by fudgester:When asked to comment, she kept talking about statistics such as 'N Level students scoring Grade 4 are unlikely to pass the O Level subject.....'

walao. that's a damn stupid thing to do. Despite all studies telling teachers not to pigeon hole children - MOE does exactly that.Originally posted by fudgester:When asked to comment, she kept talking about statistics such as 'N Level students scoring Grade 4 are unlikely to pass the O Level subject.....'

Did you eat something you're allergic to? Or like you said, a bad case of mossie bites. Poor thing. Calamine lotion dabbed on each bump might help?Originally posted by tare:i'm having rashes all over my arms![]()

You can never really quantify all those non-tangible attributes and put a physical face to them.Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:It really makes a lot of difference when it comes to self belief, attitude, and perspective.

After 6pm tomorrow, I can sing that song. But since I work straight commission, doesn't matter if I stay till the end of my shift. As soon as I handle a customer who's coming down to the store for an issue, I'm going to ask if I can leave and call it a night.
I can't say the same for myself, can't say I showed MOE. I was constantly told that I was lousy at Maths. I didn't have a teacher who wanted to help me understand. I was partly to blame too since I didn't bother either.Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:walao. that's a damn stupid thing to do. U know all those studies about moving students placed in 'moderate' result classes into classes with 'high' results.. and NOT telling the teachers about it. Results have shown that when this happen.. students who get high results end up regressing, and students who had moderate results in the first place, end up improving.
It really makes a lot of difference when it comes to self belief, attitude, and perspective.
I've heard this joke before. Hearing it again made me laugh. Thank you! Maybe I'll be as lucky tomorrow? Send that customer my way!Originally posted by the Bear:you're welcome
try to do what the kid in the joke did...
A young guy from Minnesota moves to Florida and goes to a big "everything under one roof" department store looking for a job.
The Manager says, "Do you have any sales experience?"
The kid says, "Yeah. I was a salesman back in Minnesota."
Well, the boss liked the kid and gave him the job.
"You start tomorrow. I'll come down after we close and see how you did."
His first day on the job was rough, but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down.
"How many customers bought something from you today?"
The kid says, "One."
The boss says, "Just one? Our sales people average 20 to 30 customers a day. How much was the sale for?"
The kid says "$101,237.65."
The boss says "$101,237.65? What the heck did you sell?"
The kid says, "First, I sold him a small fishhook. Then I sold him a medium fishhook. Then I sold him a larger fishhook. Then I sold him a new fishing rod. Then I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down the coast, so I told him he was going to need a boat, so we went down to the boat department and I sold him a twin engine Chris Craft. Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4x4 Expedition."
The boss said, "A guy came in here to buy a fishhook, and you sold him a BOAT AND a TRUCK???!!!"
The kid said, "No, the guy came in here to buy Tampons for his wife, and I said, 'Dude, your weekend's shot, you should go fishing........"

So embarassing when you can't even help your kids with 6th grade Math homework.
Same here. Sometimes it could be that people are just better at one thing than another. But i believe if all teachers could teach while believing that all students COULD learn - then whatever their current results are, they definitely could improve.Originally posted by jetta:I can't say the same for myself, can't say I showed MOE. I have had teachers telling my class point blank that.. Oh.. arts class ah.. why don't u drop maths C or A maths? Waste of time you know - all will fail anyway.
