Well, I guess if you're gonna be a journalist or something, your standard of English has to be good.Originally posted by sbst275:I was reading TNP today.. happened to see abt it

Today the number of pages of ads varies... RP, TP 1 page... SP 1/2 page.. NP 5 pages
giam pak... rich dun have to say so muchOriginally posted by stellazio:yar, plus need a written test and a face to face interview plus ur points gotta be around 10-12.
and plus did u read the 10 reasons why u shud go to NP?
such a pity, they never state that they're the richest and have most funds for upgrading...![]()
sigh not just that.. u also have to be damn good at grasping the MAIN points.Originally posted by fudgester:Well, I guess if you're gonna be a journalist or something, your standard of English has to be good.
if mass comm industry is what u r really interested in, you don't need a degree to enter it at all.Originally posted by stellazio:damnit, now i regret not going into mass comm.

but isn't singapore a paperchase society? i quite like the media and interacting around with people.Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:if mass comm industry is what u r really interested in, you don't need a degree to enter it at all.
Industry knowledge and savviness is far more important than a degree in this field.
Well end of the day, even those w/ degree in socialogy can work in lines like media or corp comms dept of an coOriginally posted by stellazio:but isn't singapore a paperchase society? i quite like the media and interacting around with people.
but in the end, i went to the exact opposite of a course, accountancy.![]()
True, but hey! A degree is still what a degree essentially is. A stepping stone.Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:if mass comm industry is what u r really interested in, you don't need a degree to enter it at all.

yar, i know, i was telling my friend that they should put that to gek the other 4 polys.Originally posted by sbst275:giam pak... rich dun have to say so much
Say top poly in choice, got degree, flexibility in electives
I did heard that NP would be allowing engineering students to take electives like econs
in this particular industry, a paper cert without a personality possessing suitable inherent qualities would be completely useless.Originally posted by stellazio:but isn't singapore a paperchase society? i quite like the media and interacting around with people.

Actually from last time alrdy hearing, SP sooner or later going to lose dua tau position... only a matter of timeOriginally posted by stellazio:yar, i know, i was telling my friend that they should put that to gek the other 4 polys.
like you know, rubbing salt into their wound, especially SP who has lost its position as the no.1 poly.![]()
Yup. The only advantage is it opens an additional set of doors.Originally posted by SBS3625D:True, but hey! A degree is still what a degree essentially is. A stepping stone.
Like it or not, the piece of paper still gives an advantage.
sp sucks la.Originally posted by sbst275:Actually from last time alrdy hearing, SP sooner or later going to lose dua tau position... only a matter of time
Though paper is important to get your jobOriginally posted by SBS3625D:The position hardly matters.
The environment counts. I was lucky to have a competitive class that drove me.
but i've already decided to further my studies after NS. i wanna be a student for 1 last time.Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:Yup. The only advantage is it opens an additional set of doors.
but the edge it gives in this industry is so temporary that.. again like I said, without the additional qualities, the door will slam hard and shut so fast u don' have time to blink.
It's an unforgiving industryand first thing you need is a thick skin and self confidence. If you think you can't get in without a degree, you can't.
But I'm wondering abt SMU...Originally posted by stellazio:sp sucks la.
just relying on their history as singapore's no.1 poly nia.
Np has too many applications each year that they have to reject so many.
my course for example has dropped like 4 points since my matriculation year.![]()
