actually nowadays they like to teach a lot of trial and error sumsOriginally posted by the Bear:i got woken up..
my mom is teaching a neighbour's primary 3 child english
however, he's stuck with a math problem
two actually..
he's given two "math" questions which require either multi-dimensional simultaneous calculation or pure trial and error.. and the primary 3 children don't even know what the hell the question is trying to tell them...
and these "sums" are stressing the hell out of them..
i have the feeling the education ministry is trying to find the next Carl Gauss or Leonhard Euler... the hell with the rest..
that's the thing.. i tihnk a lot of kids sort of 'give up' when they cannot get the answer... but a lot of times, it should not be the case ba.Originally posted by SBS3625D:If learning maths means knowing how you get to the answer, then trial and error is simply not the way.
I is lurving maths, but only when I can understand the problem.
And since I love maths, naturally I fell in love with physics and economics.
Well, trial and error is a good way to get the answer, but more importantly, kids must understand the reasoning behind the pattern that allows one to use trial and error since this method relies on pattern.Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:that's the thing.. i tihnk a lot of kids sort of 'give up' when they cannot get the answer... but a lot of times, it should not be the case ba.
A lot of trial and error is also based on logical deductions - and kids need to learn that too.

Okay.... the TS is really asking for trouble.
He's a 6-pointer for the O Levels, and he fears going to a poly course he likes because he might get 'affected' by people of 'lower intellect'.![]()
I'll give such an idiot trouble since he asks for it.Originally posted by sbst275:Asking for trouble
