my colleague oso said that you are likely having a flat battery.
he said in UK, they have an emergency jump start kit (like a red box). for the engine and for the tyres too. oso comes with a powerful torch..
wah...i want to get one for my family car too..

Automobile Association la.. I think you probably don't have this..
Originally posted by soleachip:Fatum, completely no sound when I tried to start the engine. Can't even turn my key to start. Completely zero. Nothing happened. No sound no action no lights absolutely nothing. It's as if I inserted the wrong key in the wrong car (if you know what I mean).
Is that what it's like with a flat battery. If it's a flat battery then what do I do and what are jumper cables?
Bluejuice, think I'm trying to avoid a tow away, most likely will buy my own fuel and drive to work shop myself. Will check for puddle when I get back.
sounds like a flat battery ..... so flat that it's not even trying to turn over .... well ... you better pray it's a flat battery ... cos if it's an electrical problem ... it's going to cost you all your ang bao money and a bit more ... jumper cables are used for jumping flat batteries ... you just need a car with it's engine running, and a set of jumper cables ... it really should be part of any car's standard equipment, along with your spare tire ...
I really don't think it's an empty fuel problem .... even if the needle goes past the "E", there's usually enough fuel left to get to the nearest petrol station, it's part of the design .... and you deserves a kok on the head for driving around with the fuel gauge nearly empty ... it's not a good idea you know .... you risk condensation and what not in the fuel tank ... best to keep the tank as full as you can, always ....

Fatum, she already said that yesterday there were a few notches about the E line. So most probably its a flat battery...
I always get nervous if I see the low fuel indication light up..
this happened to me:
my ex-boss Merc 180. He needs me to go meeting, so i take his car. his car parked at basement of a quiet carpark. I switch on the ignition. BOOM.. LOUD EXPLOSION. i smelt burning stuff, ignition lights died.
scrambled out of car and run to tell boss (which is a very cute handsome boss), "boss your car exploded". He went "arggghhhh" and went to check the car and engine. Cannot figured out what happened. Call AA.
I took another company car went out. Came back. Boss told me sheepishly : "darling, paiseh. i forgot to add water. water tank dry. water tank exploded into pieces. Did it scare it?...hur hur hur.."
arggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh! that's my lovely ex-boss.

Ok. So if it's a flat battery, what do I do in this case?
I really don't think I ran out of fuel yesterday because if I did, there would be the indication light. Besides, when I collected, it was 2 notches to E and I could make it back home.
One last question, so if it's flat battery, my fuel gauge will indicate zero fuel?
could be alternator spoilt too...

if it's a flat battery, you beg borrow or steal a set of jumper cables, and jump start your car that way .... tat's option A, which would be the cheapest also ....
if your car's manual instead of automatic, you also have the option of push starting it ... ![]()
or you can call the AA chaps down ...
and yes, your fuel gauge will indicate zero fuel cos the fuel guage will only work when the car's started, the gauge needle goes to empty when you turn off the engine too, no ? ... ![]()

possible ... that could explain why the battery ran out of juice all of a sudden ... ![]()
not going to be cheap to replace it, but it'll be cheaper than an electrical problem ...

ok thanks fatum. How do I jumpstart my car? Can I find that information in the manual? It's automatic.
And what do I do if the alternator is spoilt kopiosatu?

first, you'd need to find someone with a set of jumper cables .... when you find that person, chances are, he or she will know how to use it ... ![]()
I think ah juice is right ... maybe it's best to call the AA guys .... there's a chance of your battery exploding if it's not properly grounded when jumping it ... ![]()

If she's not a AA member then cannot call AA. Call a mechanic..
if alternator pai, u still need to call the AA guys, lol!
because there is no way u can start it.
I can imagine cleavers being sharpened across sungei kadut and ubi already ... ![]()
i drove a GP car and the alternator failed halfway ![]()
