let those with whatever abilities pace themselves. It's better for them to find their niche and ITE is a place they can find a skill
I am pitying those ITE students that are needed by the industry but yet not able to survive in this country!

At least times have changed, ITE is now a good brand name

my school gets NS men to volunteer during our big functions like sports day and children's day
i was pleasantly surprised how sweet some of these men are... i had 2 guys attached to my students
and they really took great care of the kids even feeding them very gently!
so if u get to 'wayang' at a meaningful event :) do know u r appreciated.

The wages given to them doesn't reflect it. And its still a known fact that government organizations will never accept ITE students.
So what are they proving?

Fine, maybe enough to survive, but will struggle with life. Do you think 1.5k is alot in this world we're in now?

Alrdy you know ITE teaches skills for working life
As for govt jobs, well sometimes you've to understand a certain standards gotta be set. Like being a TSO at Poly or ITE gotta at least have a dip cert and working experience

diploma starting pay $1.7K. so how?

I would say this la
It depends on supply and demand for it... Poly also wat, engineering dip cert holders tend to get higher starting pay one... but increment is more restricted

For my industry its 1.9k.
And a diploma gives you many further options. Plus not to mention that the pay increase is at least more.
But in da first place, i never did say that the pay for diploma holders was high, it is also low.
The government needs to curb the number of foreign workers stealing the jobs of our ITE/Diploma holders thus capping their salary limit.

Problem is, are we willing to take those jobs?
Even SBS buses, just now at the day thread which now makes me to think sense why SBS say harder to get drivers, now looking at PRC

regulars.
do you feel safe training someone for 3-6 months and just when he's about to get used to the aircraft system, he ORD. then the whole process starts again with the new batch.
i don't know what justifies "success" to the higher ups - saving cost?
i can honestly say that ever since NSFs came in, i have never had so many "highlights" during briefing and debrief everyday
fuel spill, hit head, fall down, etc...
there's really loads of stuff you don't get with regular workers.

Thats why i was questioning Lau Lee's intent to go to ITE to give a talk, presumably to give a certain sense of pride to the ITE students that they're need by the Singapore economy, the feel good factor.
Yet when they finally go out to work, they're under appreciated.

It takes time, lots of things can't be rushed
at least it's moving in the correct step ma...

Yeah true they try to save cost, and yet when an accident happens in our industry, the heads, reports and $$$ will be soo much more then the cost they try to scrimp and save on.
And my regular coursemate told me that her starting pay is only 1.2k! WTF!!

Woah, i didn't know ITE trains their students to be maids/construction workers!![]()

i would consider the working hours too.
but i really don't mind.
singapore has fallen back alot when it comes to blue collar jobs.
here's something to share
my auntie/uncle's company from australia was asked by NParks to give advice on the problem with singapore's greenary. they said they wanted to bring the standard up.
my uncle (used to be a singaporean) told them in the face. the problem with this country is that labour is under appreciated, everyone thinks its a banghra job. unknown to them, a landscape artchitect (or gardener) earns a starting pay of $2-3K in other countries with good opportunities for increment if you're certified. the certification is recognised in most countries.
so he told NParks, the problem now is that the foreign workers come to singapore. do manual labour for a few years, go back home and start a company with the money and experience. so in the end, the employment ends at that country. that is a problem for us, since there's no one to take care of the trees anymore.
So who's left? Singaporeans lah. but every mother son thinks its a dirty job and there's no money to it.
who's to blame? education, parents, culture... u go figure it out.
another problem is a typical singaporean problem - cost savings.
We purchased D-grade trees, now they are deteriorating. my relatives told them, if you had purchased A-grade trees in the first place, the initial cost (though high) would be lesser than the repair costs now.
They offered land to my relatives to train singaporeans in landscape maintainence, they rejected.
Out of goodwill, they offered to let Singaporean students to get the cert at their nursery in Australia.
recently my auntie came back to singapore, she said singaporeans (in my words) cannot make it.
every little thing also complain, can't do manual labour. lol~
i tell her not to waste time with them anymore and just send them back. I'll go over when my contract finishes and take over them.
In fact the JC debate years back I was disguested
can some one talk about how come chingay require purchase tickets,
while this youth event FOC plus many gifts?
Same location, only different day
same set up also.
