Broke yet?
How much have you given away already? The first year I had to give ang pows was the most painful. Especially when I didn't have kids to recoup the outlay.
Some of my friends tell me that it's normal for them to give away $1000 or more just to immediate family alone.
Heng ah I have a very small family. ![]()

I started to downgrade my ang pows already. There are friends or neighbour's kids. I didn't give that much and most of the time, the kids don't even 'Hew' me and just walk off like I am transparent, so now I don't want to chase after them to give them ang pows like I owe it to them.
Nowadays, kids don't greet visitors to their house. They run off to their room and play games by themselves.

Like that I have been losing for a few yrs liao
I think of it this way; the number of ang pows I give will never add up to the amount I need to spend on my kid and even with kids, the ang pow money goes to them and not me ![]()
Under the assumption that I give 1k ang pow a year and that I live for the next 60 yrs.
That is just 60,0000 ok let's make it 100,000 since I have been married before that. That is excluding the ang pow I 'made' before I got married and you will definately spend more than 100,000 on a child
Whoa elindra.. thats very....cold calculations ![]()

If really wanna count is like that one ma
That is excluding the factor of inflation too wor and the cost of rising school fees ![]()
Ang Pow ppl feel the pinch coz you see all the money going out in less than 3 days ma
It's not cold calculations but realistic calculations. Of course with a kid you can say there are other intangibles like they are cute, bring you happiness etc etc which does not come with a price tag.
But if you really wanna calculate on what you lose, thinking what I said will make you look like a winner if you don't like kids ![]()
hur hur... i will keep that in mind... ![]()

Jialet teach you the wrong thing :o
That was the reply I gave my relatives when they said I should have a kid to earn back the ang pow lost
They shut up immediately when I started calculating for them
giving ang pows vs having a kid.
I started to factor in opportunity costs too with a kid around
Ya I know I'm terrible >.<"
so when u have ur 3 kids u will be losing more than...180 000 ? ![]()

Once you do have a child, all that goes out the window. I say that because the sheer love you feel for your own child negates almost everything.

That is why I said in an earlier post that for those who love children or have a child they count in other factors which is more important than $$
Wait till I have a child first to see if I like children better (maybe only applicable to my child) because I still find kids a pain in the butt

Yeah, that's normal for me, but it's ok...the bulk goes to my parents.
Just don't think too much about the ang paos given to the others. ![]()
HAve 2 is the best.
example you have 2kids, ppl have 4...
you give 10 each, = 40...
they normally return ur kids 20 each....
whereas if you have 1kid, they have 4, u don expect them give u near equal amount ba?
