food?
look at the molecular food idiots and go far far the other way...
good, simple, artery-hardening, comfort food..
reinvent the humble instant noodle...
if they can make a can of sake that can heat itself or cool itself, they can make a bowl of instant noodles that can cook itself..

To 'reinvent the wheel' is a figurative term to mean to come up with new things, to put a new spin / new ideas into something.
Sort of. well i have been on my damn project for many hrs. I have to come up with few designs for TCA (temasek culinary academy) souvenir shop.

Not come up with new food, but more of souvenirs for a culinary academy, not forgetting a strong rational behind it.

Anyway, I'm not going to school today..... no lessons today, and there's nothing much I can do at the lab anyway.
Gonna tell my younger sis about the NUS Career Fair later when she wakes up.... she had graduated from SIM since the middle of last year, and still hasn't found a job.
I'm thinking that she's being a little too picky - she rejected a $1800/month job offer on the basis that it paid 'too little'.
This is one problem of youngsters nowadays. They think that after graduating from university, they can get high pay. $2,000 is low to them. But from an employer point of view, I will definitely not hire a fresh graduate with high pay because they totally do not have any relevant work experience. Unless they have a professional degree..
When we're ready to throw in the towels and be semi-retired, LF, elindra, and I are going to open a small cafe-restaurant!
My ideal restaurant is a small hole-in-the-wall type that is homely, and serves wholesome, hearty, lip-smackingly good food.
No instant anything... but rather, I'd like to serve food made from scratch. Better still, there shall be no fixed menu per se but we'll go to the market to shop for the freshest ingredients, and then put up a menu. Serve only a small no. of people everyday, enough to earn decent profits, and allow us time to relax.
Kinda like those old French bistros where the same few customers go in for lunch everyday, and the menu is determined on the day itself, dependant on what's freshest in the market.
I don't want any snazzy reviews... I just want to cook decent food. Like... serve lunch to the Shenton Way crowd. Have a couple of regular customers who come in everyday, know them by name. Maybe, just open during tea breaks and lunch, and then close for the day! Open for half-day on Saturdays, and don't even have to open on Sundays!
Nice!
how big does it have to be?
a box of clips in different utensils?
something like this?

Yeah! It's just like sowing a seed, and then expect a full-grown, flowering plant the next day!
They have completely forgotten about the daily watering, occasional weeding, pruning and fertilising, etc etc.
Actually, I made that mistake when I was younger.
I was quite haughty, and the thing is, my grades carried me through, and also, I tend to perform well during interviews.
I have a selective gift of the gab and I know the right stuff to say, the image to project, etc during interviews. That's why, when I became a staff in Human Resources and had to sit at the other side of the table, I could pick out candidates who were just sian-ing, and those who were sincere. It takes a thief to know a thief. ![]()
old story:
i would like to build a pub..
somewhere in a beach resort.. like Samui..
and maybe one day, i'll actually open it to the public ![]()

Hmmm, its states in the brief here that i am tasked to generate concepts for the culinary academy souvenir shop.
The solution or the final design shld be culinary related and it must served the purpose of promoting public awareness with regards to the academy expertise and offerings

Haiz... combine resources mah! Open one good, cosy and homely cafe together!
We close at 4pm, after selling kueh's and snacks for afternoon tea, k? Then we clean up the place together, and chit chat as we clean.
Then we leave by 6pm, go meet our friends or whatever, go recce some good makan place together, and then tomorrow, I wake up at 0630hrs to head to the market and scout for fresh ingredients again.
Do something we like, at a leisurely pace, do stuff the good old-fashioned way, and ensure we don't drop dead from stress!
Feed the lunchtime crowd well, and go to bed happy that you've provided nutritious food, not MSG-laden instant what-not's.

I like that last sentence.
I want to select who I allow into my restaurant. None of those "The customer is always right" bullshit. Either you behave yourself, and be polite, or you'll be refused entry the next time. ![]()

What's their budget?
Culinary-related stuff can range from the cheapo stuff like timers, fanciful corkscrews, to the more expensive ones like a good fruit paring knife that's entirely made of good steel.

Hmmm. It would be given out or sold as souvenirs so i dun think the budget is high. maybe mid range.

Orh... in that sense would have to be stuff like :
- timers;
- corkscrews;
- a set of nice cocktail sticks;
- a set of stirrers for cocktail drinks;
- small paper umbrellas used for cocktail drinks but printed with your academy's logo;
- toothpick container;
- knife sharpening block;
- that gadget whatever-call-it for making sure fizzy drinks remain fizzy after opening the PET bottle;
- can openers;
- a pair of nice silver / gold chopsticks;
- coasters (boring!);
- mini-shredder;
- peeler / scraper;
etc etc etc...
After trying out a few brands of beer here, I have decided that I hate beer, and I much prefer wine.
Time for my glass of Pineapple Juice!! And then to contemplate what to do for the rest of today!
Looks like the storm clouds are gathering! Sigh... it's either too darn hot to step out, or the heaven's going to storm like they're trying to fill the dams to capacity here. ![]()
Woah. If i knw nuts abt culinary, i only knw how to eat. ![]()
Ok maybe a little higher for the budget, well u see cos i have to design the souvenirs and make the prototype out, so the products would have to be a little bigger.
Like utensils or cutlery.
