Skipping meals ain't good..... it forces your body into stavation mode and makes it hoard calories (especially fat) as much as possible.
ELMO ( Eat Less More Often) is the way to go..... in other words, eat more meals, but in small portions each time. It keeps your metabolic rate constant and reduces the chances of having the energy stored as fat.

You obviously don't know what is like when they test the stabilising fins in the middle of the night. The ship rolls +-10deg and as I lay on my bed, no matter how I try I would flip left and right. So ironic, the stabilising fins are supposed to actually reduce the rolling!
And they often like to whack the engine bcos it's sea-trials and when they max it out at almost 30knots, the area where I sleep vibrates like mad.
