Precisely! My very first job was just $900. Gritted my teeth, gained as much hands-on experience as I could, at the opportune moment, switched jobs and got paid $1,100. Stayed and gained as much experience as I could to make my CV look even better, changed jobs again and got $1,300. All the while, I attended various courses and night classes. In fact, out of seven years in the corporate world, I was attending night classes for five years. ![]()
I always improved my skills and qualifications and always kept an eye out for better career opportunities. I think the largest increment I got for changing jobs was $600.
I used to sieve through CV from job applicants and honestly, holding a job, ANY job, is much preferable to being idle for months and years just cause one couldn't find the 'right' job. That speaks volumes about attitude. It's better to keep busy, than to just stay idle and non-productive. One can always pick up skills in any job one takes on.

Sounds just like when I talked to my cats, who'd all be lazing around in their favourite places whilst I went about doing housework. Lucky furballs... don't need to strive nor work, no need to worry about paying the rent and the bills, day-in day-out just lie around, take catnaps, preen themselves. ![]()

You know, elindra, good thing I didn't return home as planned - the hospital-certified Critical Care Nursing course is starting one entire month ahead of schedule! If I had returned home this month, I would definitely miss the course!
Thank goodness for women's intuition! ![]()

Nowadays, I can enter a patient's room, and be able to guess pretty accurately, whether he/she is going to be a PITA patient or not and usually, I'm pretty accurate.
And I think God heard my prayers. I prayed to Him to PLEASE somehow not let me have to work in my old ward for longer than necessary because I'll die an ugly death! I also said to please let me officially transfer to the ICU and not have anything stand in the way of my course and I really want to return home in December and the next thing I know, ta-daaaaah!... the course has been moved forward, and because of that, the wheels have been set in motion to pave the way for me in the Cardiac Critical Care Unit and the Intensive Care Unit here.
I'm really pleased cause there are lots of really awesome experts and nurse specialists in these areas and there's so much I can learn!
It's really funny here - the general standard of nursing is worse than in Singapore, but when it comes to the nurse specialists, they are beyond match!
