You either drive your sis' car (not recommended) or you pay about AUD150+ per pax for a full day trip that starts at 0800hrs in a meeting place along Swanston St, near Bourke St, and ends past midnight where you get dumped at the same spot.
Counters for day trips are located at this mall at the junction of Swanston and Bourke, where the Nike shop used to be, and where Reader's Feast and Dick Smith Electronics is.
I think you'd better pop in a few painkillers before taking the trip because your bad back might act up on the loooong journey there.
No take painkillers without eating first! I think en route, you'll stop by a miserable farm place where there are only two kangaroos and a few measly koalas for pathetic tourists to oogle at.
Perhaps, you should ask your sis to make sure she has coffee, sugar, and some other staples you can have a quick b'fast from before you make the trip. Or, if you're feeling really gung ho and can reach town early enough, you can always eat at Burger King's, which opens for breakie at 0600 hrs, or any one of the small cafes near the meeting point.
Better bring your warmest kickass winter coat because sitting by the beach, waiting for the freaking tiny penguins to make up t heir minds if they want to come back home or not is going to take a loooong time. Like heavens, everyday for the past few years they've seen tons of people on their beach and they STILL hesitate.
Don't leave early after the people start to leave. Wait. Move down right to the sand area. Sit. Don't move. Penguins might come up close to you if you are very lucky and don't breathe.
OK, sorry, forget about the not breathing part. I don't want to be your nurse if you peng sanz and turn up in my hospital.
And once again, warm coats!!! The wind blows up from ... the hell... Arctic or Antartica, geography koyak.
And, before you head to the bleachers, visit the gents! It does get so cold that erm... 'accidents' might happen!
