their NS is only 3 months plus not everyone has to do it already so many die liao in just 4 years.............it seems the main cause of death is inadequate medical care..ours is 2 years and is real military training...not the half cock up OBS style training over there...

when NS chaps in Singapore die, they die during combat training ......
some drown during POW training, some get crushed by tanks in australia, some get crushed by falling trees in brunei ... some get blown up by faulty arty shells in NZ ....
but the chaps in malaysia die of more prosiac reasons ...

Well, I've never seen Malaysian NS as anything more than a long, drawn-out OBS.
Hell, Malaysian parents were objecting strenuously when they decided to introduce elements of M16 training.
The thing is, all they have to do is to go to the firing range and squeeze the trigger.... even the loading and unloading of rounds is done by the instructors.

actually not so sure about the part about medical, but agree with what av said. They go there and do some lousy "training" not even that physical from what I heard too. And they have so may casulties, no doubt our NS has probably a lot of hidden deaths too. But at least ours is like full fledged military training............
