The 2nd-hand laptop dealer contacted me again.
I agreed to sell off my decrepit old laptop to him for $350 this Friday.
I just would like to ask..... reformatting + heavy scrubbing oughta be able to wipe out my hard disk so clean that no average computer monkey can retrieve my data, right?

i think reformatting would be enough for most

I don't have a hard disk like Edison Chen's.... but suffice to say that I've got enough data to get my privacy invaded and my life messed up a few times over.
By the way..... to reformat the hard disk, is it just a matter of inserting the recovery disk?
Never did reformatting before on my own.

no, shouldn't be the recovery disks, do you have your OS disks ? ...

Nopes. The OS came preinstalled. I bought it through NUS.
When I reformatted it the previous few times, I brought my laptop down to the NUS service center to get it done.
I had to fork out $15 for that service. Yikes.

do you have any partition ? ....
with partitions you can do a partial reformat around your disk partitions, withou having to scrub away your OS ....
do it a few times, plus a downloaded scrubber, and you don't have to sit through a full reformat
