No ERP gantries for CTE tunnel for now
By Valarie Tan, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 27 August 2008 1747 hrsSINGAPORE : There are currently no plans to set up Electronic Road Pricing gantries in the underground portion of the Central Expressway, said Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Teo Ser Luck in Parliament on Wednesday.
This is because it does not pose as much of a safety risk as the nine-kilometre-long Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE).
But if the safety situation changes or travel speeds fall below the threshold level of 45 km per hour, gantries will be installed and activated.
Mr Teo was responding to questions from MPs on whether gantries would be built on other expressways in anticipation of slower traffic flows.
He explained that as three-quarters of the nine-kilometre KPE is underground, the impact of an incident there would "multiply many fold" if traffic is congested.
So it is making the upfront investment of some S$24 million to build the 16 gantries first, even though not all of them will be activated when the KPE opens in September.
Mr Teo said: "The rationale is unique to the KPE in view of the safety concerns and is not applied to arterial roads or other expressways on the surface.
"The 16 gantries itself (are) on the entries and exits itself. So based on the distance and where there are exits, we place the installation of the gantries accordingly to the manner by the plans of where there are exits." - CNA/msCan you imagine the kind of lame reasons they can think of nowaday?

Ai yoh fast oso cannot slow oso cannot... Then wtf they want.... Waste money build KPE and then ask drivers to go at 60km/h.... There will definitely be congestion lor... LTA got too much brainless planners liao.... Do they have any idea how freaking slow 60km is? I think Usain Bolt run to the other end liao we still halfway thru... Make it a reasonable speed like 70 to 80 at least

They have it for normal takeaway in the foam bowls... but only the regular items are sold in the vaccuum packs.

speed limit in tunnels is defintely lower

Then when the soup have boiled, I'll pour it over a raw egg and nothing is more shoik than eating the lumps of soup with raw egg yolk :X
