My 50-inch Panasonic plasma HDTV died over the weekend. The serviceman came earlier this afternoon and was unable to repair it on-site, so he took it back with him to be further diagnosed and (hopefully) repaired.
Fortunately, it's less than a year old, so everything is covered under the warranty. But I'm without a TV now.... ![]()

Highly doubtful. I have my entire entertainment center hooked up to a heavy-duty surge protector.
I'm frankly surprised it died in under a year too. I intentionally chose a Panasonic because of their supposed stellar reputation for reliability. Oh well, I guess it was good that it malfunctioned while still under warranty...

Holy crap! I never thought about that!! ![]()

I guess nowadays a lot of things including electronics we bought are not made to last. That's why all the shops now are busy selling us extended warranty for the products we buy. We did that for our new TV and fridges we bought early this year and the dryer as well.

So true, so true. Few consumer durables are made to last nowadays--it seems like quality and workmanship have been sacrificed at the altar of profitability.

my old pioneer amplifier lasted me 14 years. I hope the replacement (a UK made one this time. I refuse to buy Chinese stuff) lasts as long!
Wow Fudge is scary >.<"
In other news I'm feeling so lazy I don't feel like leaving the house for work
Morning folks...it seems that products are now made to last only 1 cycle, determined by how long the average users holds on to it before changing to another. In this part of the world we get new phones as often as once a year, and I think it's a wasteful consumer culture.

That's coz companies figured they earned more that way and encourage consumers to do that

could try that.. but who will help me cart the accursed thing away? it's 55kg! ![]()
nowadays even the karang guni men won't just take any TVs ....
they'll pay $10 for a plasma, and YOU have to pay them money to cart others away ... ![]()
yeah... my neighbour was kicking up a fuss about that...
so she dumped the tv just outside for the dustmen who were only too pleased to pick it up..
In Oz, all we need to do is put it on the nature strip and it will disappear in no time.
We have hard rubbish collections twice a year and sometimes the things we put out on the nature strip disappear before the actual rubbish collection has taken place.
