actually, we are not as bad as say, taiwan or south korea ....
NSmen would whine and complain and bitch about reservists and in camp every year, but when it comes to the crunch, most of them would do their duty ....
I have exercised with NS unkers as the opfor before .... it's an amazing sight to see a pot-bellied unker charge full tilt at you, screaming hokkien vulgarities, carrying a heavy general purpose machine gun .....
the old school unkers in their 30s and 40s today, with their wives and kids, their houses and properties ... they'll fight when asked too ....

That's because the pot-bellied uncle knows that if they don't protect the country, they are going to lose their loved ones etc. They have a hell lot of things to lose. Family, friends, memories, the blood and sweat they have put in to build what Singapore is today.
Those apathic buggers don't feel a thing because they think they have nothing to lose and why should they lay down their life for a country who don't give them anything?

I think the people are unhappy with the recent PAD act by locking down the airports
Thailand thrives on tourism and by their very actions, it's like breaking their rice bowls

i'm predicting that IF the military don't take action, they might dump the current army chief, swap with one who will do something.
either way, a retaliation force is supposedly gathering at Isaan to move to BKK

Even if they succeed and do oust the ruling premier..... I believe that PAD will still be kaput in the long run.
Whatever goodwill and sympathy they had went up in flames by this act of madness.
What's the point of them ousting the grand pooh-bah if they don't have any street cred? And whatever street cred they had with the average Joe got busted when they chose to smash their rice bowls.
