The said kids are setting off the whistling sparklers already. I have hilarious memories of those - one cousin "accidentally" set a palm tree on fire years ago, and we used to mash and stack them together for the bonfire effect.

we nearly burnt down the house back in malaysia last time during CNY when the "missile rack" firecrackers toppled to one side while they were still launching -

i miss playing with firecrackers..
we had those "pulling" types.. you pull the strings and the firecracker goes off..
we killed a lot of caterpillars eating my grandma's plants with the firecrackers

Oh well, closer to modern times, all we did was scare the rats and cats around my grandmother's house. That palm caught fire really quickly though!

we had access to a very wide variety in malaysia. there were even the ones that are in the form of tanks. you light them up and they'd move and fire their gun! lots of fun stuff. CNY was certainly more fun as kids! -

My bro used to do that with the firecrackers. Basically anything that moves in and around the potted plants were fair game. CNY in a coupla minutes!
