looking at the world right now, with overpopulation and everything i see leads to one conclusion of a total world die-out (see Easter Island), i figure to have children is to doom them to suffer terribly for the mistakes and stupidities of the past generations...
and, frankly, to add to the sum total of problems of the planet...
it's pessimistic as hell, but that view is actually an optimistic point of view...
the pessimistic realist will tell you the world is doomed with even more suffering, mayhem and worse...

but the next generation will have to face a global population of about 12 billion...
that's not sustainable...
adding to the "next generation" is taking it away from the next generation...
it is probably a hard-wired thing.. an animal thing.. put as many of your genetic progeny out there as you can... the hell with the rest...
and with the help of medical science, the darwinism in this pursuit doesn't ring true anymore...

our ingenuity as a species has had bad effects on earth and on other species, but our genius has also recognized the problem ... our ingenuity has brought us this far ... let's trust our future generations to do even better ... and while from a biological standpoint you may be right, that it's all a biological urge ....
but doesn't that reduce us, debase us, our sentience, our emotions, our very existence, to nothing more than a puddle of carbon based juices bubbling in cycles of reactions ? ....
I like to think our collective existence has more meaning than that .....
