After working here, I don't think it'll be easy transitioning back to Singapore's working conditions. There's hardly any employee rights. I like working here where there are strict anti-bullying policies and Unions. Things aren't exactly peachy here all the time but I feel a bit more 'secure' with strong and effective union backing and workplace laws. Australia is huge on workplace safety. Employers also do not dare to exploit their employees because they will end up in hot soup!
that's the lower level of staff .. normal workers are not too bad?

The minimum wage guidelines are strictly implemented. That is, unless one is an illegal immigrant working in one of those dodgy organisations that Immigration is always after.
I'm surprised that Canada is lax about it...
they aren't. but if you're desperate for a job, you'll take anything. and if you complain, it also means you'll lose the job. so in some sense, it's a 'win-win' situation.
and anyway, the only thing we hear about illegal immigrants etc is that they are often employed in small lousy companies. but i can bet that there are plenty in larger organizations as well. just that we don't hear about them in the news

It's indeed getting cold. I turned on the heater for the first time last night since November. The night before it was so warm I had to keep the fan running. Oh well, that's Melbourne for you!
When are you free to meet up?
My current work situation leaves me in a quandary.
My shifts are no longer rostered ahead so it's really hard for me to plan anything. ![]()
I think we shouldn't meet up until you feel better. Otherwise, it's an extra unnecessary strain on you. We can always talk on the phone if you're free. I'm glad that you managed to keep your job. It's really bad timing for me - the Nov-Jan period is traditionally quiet and then in Jan, there's an influx of graduate nurses.
It's just really a serious of really bad luck and bad timing... ![]()
Y'know, the night before the chilly winds came, I had a horrible night tossing and turning and groaning with pain with each turn because my left hip ached so badly. I had forgotten that I could predict the cold rain with my rheumatism!
I had to dig out my hot water bottles... but for some strange reason, after laundering the hot water bottle covers, they had all gone missing!
I really hope I can find my nice, furry hot water bottle covers! Otherwise, haiz... got to buy them from Coles again.
Last year, those flew off the shelves so fast because they are very nice and soft and pretty. ![]()

Hisk, with your erm... thwarted imagination, it's a bit wasted that you aren't the creator of some manga from the dark side. Y'know, like Twilight Zone style! ![]()
Darnit... I miss my dad's collection of Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt comics...

I remember they used to sell this teddy bear thingy in australia's pharmacy that you can pop into a microwave or something.. it has heated beads.. then after tt.. use it as a hot water bottle. Very convenient and cute too.

I really hope things would change for the better soon for you. Just let me know when you're free and I will always make time to see you. ![]()
I haven't been sleeping very well lately either because of my sore back (upper around the shoulder blades). Sigh.... think it could be stress related too!
Since you need to stay at home waiting for phone calls, I can always come to visit you at your place. I can do take away and eat it at your place. ![]()

smaller possum much easier to win over confidence...
offer bits of apple and raw nuts to it.. in front of it, drop the bits of food and retreat.. slowly retreat less and less and soon, it'll be eating out of your hands..

sounds like my previous workplace
friend : tomorrow free or not?
me : dunno leh, gotta call back to ask
friend : then finish work what time?
me : dunno, have to call back to ask what time i start (if its morning shift i know roughly wat time it'll end... afternoon shift, forget it)
even when i'm at work, i can't answer a simple question like "what time will u finish your shift?" because time is rubber band over there. last minute additions can lead to 4hrs extra easily.
