Hmm.... you might first want to make sure exactly what Garmin model that is.
Anyway, what's wrong with a foot pedometer like the one I'm using?
You do realize that GPS systems have a major drawback - when you're running either uphill or downhill, it will underestimate the distance you've run.

Yup, heard about some of the downsides.
Dunno. Tempted by the latest 405 but that’s like so OTT, so maybe the 305 or the updated 305 whatever.
I'm using the Nike+iPod pedometer.... cost me $55.
The sensor clips onto my shoelaces, and the receiver plugs into my iPod nano. Seriously, the sensor is small, light, and you won't really notice that it's there.
There are only two major drawbacks to it:
1) Unless you're using Nike+ shoes, you need to buy a third-party clip for the sensor. I had to shell out an extra $16 for that.
2). The (irreplaceable) sensor battery runs out after one year of (cumulative) running. If you're not running you have to unclip it from your shoes to conserve battery power. But then again, I have dedicated running shoes, so I just leave it on since I only wear them for running.
