exactly. ![]()
but the seagull is interesting, they actually reengineered the original ETA 2824 design rather than clone it outright.

oh! must be a very high end shop if they actually serve customers coffee! ![]()
Seiko has very nice ladies dress watches at very affordable prices btw, one of my friends just bought one recently. Think she paid less than $200.
well ... expensive watches is something I can save on .....
the fengshui master says I'm not suited to wearing too much precious metal on me, especially gold .... ![]()

lots of asspensive watches have no precious metal content on them at all. seems the watch companies are all trying to outdo each other in moving to the upmarket segment ![]()
I only believe in wearing stainless steel watches, no gold or gold plating for me ![]()

nothing wrong with dreaming of making big bucks of course ...but on a societal level, paper profits is just that ...
but on a societal level, I think it's a different story ... a teacher nurtures the next generation, an engineer makes things run and improves our daily lives .... a doctor heals people ... a policeman keeps the peace ... a farmer grows food, a scientist contributes to our understanding of the world ... .... each of these professions contributes to the well-being of the society, adds to our body of knowledge, advances society, and maybe even humanity ....
but I know quite a few people, smart, some even brilliant mensa types, who does nothing but chases paper profit on forex futures and other financial products ... sure, they make a good living, some even make a fabulous living, a couple of years out of the uni ... but I think it's insane ... their existence is almost ... parasitic ? ...
Actually whenever I read on e news tat NUS or SMU or NTU students winning business plan awards, I wonder what are all these about?
are they realistic things?

think given the industry she works in, wearing asspensive watches is the norm rather than the exception. my friend working in one of the banks wears watches with 5 figure price tags every day of the week ![]()

I dunno about that ... but I hope it'll give them the hunger to strike out on their own ... it'll be good for the society as a whole ....
I think one of the reasons why Singapore is so suceptible to outside economic winds is because of how our economy is structured ... all the big businesses in Singapore are either goverment linked companies, or foreign MNCs, with a few other big boys all cosy with the "establishment" .... a singaporean would dream of becoming CEO of a company ... a taiwanese or a hongkie would dream of owning the whole lot ....
but of course ... setting up bubble tea shops or blogshops along with hundreds of other competitors can't really count as entreprenuership ...
why people pay so much for a piece of metal that tells you the time? i dunch unnerstands

that's because they are jewellery too. if you think about it, for most people there's no reason to wear a watch because our phones/computers etc already tell us the time ![]()
also why people buy expensive pens when a 50cent ballpoint does the job?

those biz plan things, if it's realistic to e reality world, it's ok
even if it's in local terms, gahmen runs everything... groceries are now controlled by NTUC at 1 time
but hey, I'm not looking good at e Supermarket chain's finanical health as they keep on opening more outlets as more shopping centre opens
Like inside Jurong Point, there's 2 NTUC... Toa Payoh New Town Centre has 2 NTUC as well
But as for our economy, I think we've to realise at e end of e day, if we are not export driven, we might not have survived from e 1960s
anyway for those who like looking at the disassembly of mechanical stuff, here's the full thread

I suspect many things planned these days in Singapore are based on theory basis. But in reality, it's not possible to be done

I'm not talking about whether we're export driven or not, I think we shall always be so, because our domestic economy is really only so big ....
but I'm talking about the driving force behind our economy .... when all the big business in Singapore are either goverment linked companies covering the strategic industries and foreign MNCs that the EDB fought for, then something is wrong, no ? ... I wonder if it's indirectly stifling homegrown entreprenuership .....
would we ever be another taiwan ... "island of bosses" .... where almost 1 in 4 run their own business ? ...
