there's so much corruption in the procurement process its not funny. there's been an ongoing pissup and investigation over body armour for a very long time, basically the inferior vendor got the contract because of some backroom deals and fudging of field test reports.oh, and troops who choose to use their own money to buy better body armour, will not be given any death benefits if they are killed in action. go figure.

Speaking of body armour, is the SAF ever gonna issue it for our troops?
An extra four kilos of weight may be hell in training, but when the bullets start to fly for real, I'd feel a lot better wearing one.

plus your medic gear, plus 9 mags, two frags and a smoke, two litres of water, etc .... you can only waddle along then .....
a nice, slow, waddling target ....

and it's not a blanket solution either ...it's hot in the tropics, and humid ... it'll be like wearing a mobile sauna ....

1st target = PC
2nd target = Pl Sgt
3rd target = Pl Medicthe rest of the platoon isn't going to move after that
anyway, the coolest thing the US army is going to invest in is this hugeass remotely controllable ATV which will carry all the gear the grunts usually lug with them...
the grunts will then be in their armour, carrying basically their personal weapons.. the rest of the shit like supplies, additional ammo, support weapons, frags and whatever will be on the thing... thing is quiet as hell (i think it's electric) and can either be driven, or remotely controlled...
in the event of a firefight, it can be used for quick evacuation or to be used to hide behind as it can deflect small arms fire...

I remember reading about the Israelis coming up with a system that can actually set up protective electromagnetic forcefields around vehicles.... I think they call it TROPHY.
I've also read about the Yanks coming up with some camouflage wear that can make grunts literally blend in with the environment.
Damn.... Star Wars and Predator in real life...

the Israelis came up with this defensice weapons system which shoots down incoming RPGs and other hard-hitting things like shells and missiles... small enough to be loaded onto a land rover sized vehicle, a few can be deployed to protect a convoy..

I think trophy's actually a projectile based system ... don't think anyone's come up with those star-wars-esque energy shield things yet ....
