but I wonder what would happen if, say, a bird wanted to fly in for a rest on the tank ? ....

that's why I say likely it's based on minimum speed. so that it doesn't zap the soldier who put his hands out

how can the system differentiate between a suicide bomber sneaking up with a satchel charge and the fellow from the next tank coming up to beg for a smoke, if at all ....

might that mean FS is really his maintainence officer? to keep him well maintained, refuel, change oil, upkeep circuits, etc?

no idea but the idea was to just stop projectiles like shells and bullets right? not humans. otherwise it would be the perfect prison system assuming it can be turned on 24/7 cheaply

science fiction is a very good predictor of the future ok, and look at how much research has been going on in japan on robotics and nanotechnology! they're even trying to come up with a 'liquid' robot like the T1000. and the internet used to be the stuff of science fiction too! and all that research into AI!skynet is biding its time!
