either that or they signal and then just turn in expecting you to brake for them.
Alot of Singapore drivers think they own the road judging from their driving styles which is why we have accidents on the highways almost everyday.... I have learned to do things their way when i have to other will kena "eaten" on the roads

doesn't seem that wrong. He wants to quarantine all visitors/arrivals so that those people staying in singapore will be safe.
of course there's the economic cost to it. But I;ll put it as paranoid rather than screwed logic?

I don't think he has any idea what an impossible task that would be .... tens of thousands of people pass through Singapore daily .... where to park all these people ....we're not talking about a few dozen chaps or so you know .....
and more importantly .... does it mean that all economic activity, all traffic and commerce must stop because of this ? .... how can that be possible ? ....

it's possible. the only issue is how bad do you think the situation is. For example if this h1n1 stays as easily spread and also as undetectable + is as deadly as sars, it might be practical to do so.
and you don't need to qurantine those that just pass through as they pose no danger to singaporeans. Only those that are coming into singapore proper (none-transit) will need to be qurantined. Add to that the decrease in number of peopl who would come in due to these restrictions. The number will be manageable.
The main consideration is really how you weigh the risk of loss of lives vs the economic cost of doing so. Currently the risk of losing lives is low. You'll probably lose less than 5 lives so they judge that the 5 lives are not worth as much as the potential losses from the qurantining ![]()

just came back from NTU. knn, there really are a lot of reckless and obnoxious motorists on the roads. one fucker who was cutting lanes kept his hand on the horn instead of signalling!
and another few didn't even bother to horn or signal.

changi airport handles more than 35 million passengers annually ... that's almost 1000k a day .... say only half are not in transit ... 50k a day .... every day till the crisis is over ....and even if you discount the number of people to 10% of that figure, the really desperate ones, those who die die must come into singapore regardless .....
where to park them ? .... you're not going to pitch tents in football fields and run concentration camps you know ....or you're just going to re-export them back to where they came from ? ...
but of course ... when people hear singapore's qurantining everyone that comes in ..... regardless of flu symptoms ...
and of course ... you do realize it's really you and me and the other tax-payers that are paying for all these eh ? ...

you could do concentrate camps if there is really a need to. And of course the number of people coming in will drop due to the restrictions.
As I said, it's about how bad the situation becomes. just for exaple, if it developes into a case where any one within 10 metres without a full containment suit will die 7 days later. do you think it'll be worthwhile doing that? I'll say probably yes.
That's why I say he's being paranoid. But the concept is possible for more serious instances.
Hello people! Waiting for the plane in Amsterdam right now, boarding it in only an hour's time. Sunrise was gorgeous! It's 16 degrees outside but the sun is still fierce even at 7.30 in the morning!

of course ... if it ever comes to that ... NSFs would be activated to rein in people, concentration camps would be set up in sentosa, corpses would be incinerated at tuas, all a la "outbreak" ... ![]()
and of course, anything is possible, nevermind if it's actually practical .... right now, would you make that sort of call if you were in charge ? ... cos we know, with our common sense, that there is no call for nowhere near that sort of measures now, right ? ... so I'll ascribe that fellow's ranting to school holiday boredom ? .... ![]()
