In other news, Renault is just getting a slap on the wrist for the Crashgate scandal..... not even so much as a fine, even....
To put it in perspective, McLaren copied another kid's homework and got fined US$100 million for that. Renault burnt down the exam hall and forced all the kids to do their exam in the school field and got next to nothing for that.
If I was already apathetic about F1 to begin with, then I can forget about ever being interested in it for the rest of my life.... with this kind of verdict, I get the vibe that F1 is just a moneymaking business and not a real sport. The departure of Honda and BMW just adds to the feeling that they gave that verdict to prevent another departure.

The team has had a trial by media, which has resulted in blood-baying. Briatore, Symonds and Piquet planned the crash without the approval of the rest of the team or the parent company. They should be held responsible and they got the most severe punishments - barred from motorsports for life and 5 years respectively.
Most of the media attention focused on the team's suspended punishment but Alonso, the mechanics and the other team members were innocent! The information available from the radio comms showed that.
However, if they (in the next 2 years) or any other team commits a similar offence then they are assured of a lifetime ban from motorsports as well. I feel its fair, given how Renault co-operated unlike McLaren which withheld information twice.
