Food and People in Tibet

Our first meal was this bowl of ramien from a shop recommended by the Lonely Planet.

caption : The famous or infamous yak butter tea
This cup of tea is no cheapo cup of tea. They are sold mostly to the tourist in the eating house. This used to the the everyday drinks of the Tibetan but today, milk tea are gradually replacing this drink. The difference between the yak butter tea and the milk tea is that it is salty and have a strong buttery taste. You will have to drink it hot otherwise the buttery taste will make it unpalatable.

Breakfast is pretty English breakfast nowsaday and tsampa is just like a dessert before the main course. The Tibetan had helped me to prepare this and I had used the spoon to mixed them. They laughed at me and told me that normally they would use their hand to mixed them. Anyway it taste like baby cereal to me. ![]()
