As in internet scams, email scams, that sorta thing.
Quite recently, some fella got cheated of $40k because of an email lottery scam.
How did he get cheated? He reasoned that since the email was from the UK and not Nigeria, it ought to be genuine. *slaps forehead*
I totally dun understand how people can be so guilible...
Btw, good morning everyone~ ![]()

Magnet links? They're abolishing torrents, within the next few months, they and a few huge torrent sites will drop the torrent system and adopt a magnet link system. Works way better too.
what's a magnet link and is azureus going to be able to handle that?
i'm kinda lost as i didn't keep up with these things for a while
They talked about it on their blog, second post about Magnet links. Basically a very convenient alternative.
Torrent sites basically just provide you with a link to the download, what's running the download is the network of trackers. A huge magnet site, would prolly spell the end of all torrent sites, in a way. ![]()
I wiki'ed the magnet links and dun seem to understand it...
Wat's the difference between magnet links and torrent???
cool as heck..
piracy rules!! ![]()
talking about piracy and all that infringement shit, this story will make you laugh..
=> Canadian Recording Industry gets sued

A torrent is a file you download with this system. There are two ways to get torrent data, that is used in a system called DHT. The two ways to access DHT is magnet links and trackers. Trackers work through your browser, magnet links work directly off your bittorrent program. There's no need for trackers anymore because of the advancement with the DHT, so in a way, trackers are slower and redundant.

hmmm so kei... is it something like:
A) Me ---> Tracker ---> File
B) Me ---> File
Whereas A = Torrent, B = Magnet link? pardon me as I'm rather loss on this -___-

It's more like...
Tracker = Me --> Centralized DHT (Less peers, slower) --> Torrent (File)
Magnet = Me --> De-centralized DHT (More peers from everywhere, faster) --> Torrent (File)
well, i just went into vuze (my torrent thingy) and did a search.. bang.. i got a download of Dave Brubeck Live in Montreal
p.s. no need to download a torrent file then activate vuze.. vuze does it directly

ahar~ so it's something like back to the days like eMule and eDonkey? So once we got the magnet link (which acts as an ID for the file via their metadata), we'll link to peers with the file instead of going thru a central DHT (tracker site)?
The pictures getting clearer if my assumption is right keii ![]()
lounging on my office chair with a cup of hot chocolate, uzap wrapped around me with a Mario Puzo novel on my hand

That is correct, you head directly to peers with the files rather than heading to a central DHT that's picking peers up connected to it, often-times not picking up all the peers outside that DHT.
